I thought some people might find this article interesting. Barack Obama wrote it for the New York Times and it appeared in this morning's edition. It discusses his plan to remove troops from Iraq in 16 months after he takes office. Link below.

It's nice to see that before he has even gone to Iraq to meet with military and Iraqi officials to get an update on the situation, Obama has already made up his mind as to how he will bring an end to our involvement in Iraq. A plan that, to my opinion and observation, is not really all that different than the plan that the present administration has realistically been following for sometime. A plan that anti-Bush, andti-war people have been so critical of for equally as long a time.
But wait, isn't it that very mind set that Obama and the far left have been so critical of about the Bush administration -looking at a situation with your mind already made up as to what you are going to see and how you are going to handle the situation, depite the facts and expertise of those already involved int the situation?

In fairness, the Bush administration did not have a "realistic plan" until after being jack-slapped in the mid-term elections. Obummer is talking a bit more centrally about the Iraq War and, for practical purposes, does appear to be closer to the position McLobby has had for some time, Mc's experience allowing him to have a better view of the big picture. I saw that Defense Sec. Gates is calling for a drawdown in Iraq in order to boost troop levels in Afghanistan.

I do not mean to get personal but it seems to me the kind of thinking you seem to be exhibiting is a reflection of the quality of education that our dumbing down of the the public education system and the publc in general that we are seeing and experiencing today. People are not being taught to critically look at everything presented to them.
When in the course of history has any government made public every aspect of their plans in deaingl with other countries either during a time of peace or a time of war? Just because the government chooses not to discuss certain aspects of their policy, in public, doesn't mean that those aspects are not part of the overall plan.
Is it a realistic expectation for our government, or any government, to publicly annouce its intentions and plans along with some sort of timetable for the implimentation of those plans as if it was some kind of legal document-a contract- written in stone?
Maybe people need to do a better job of listening to what is being said than inserting what they think is being said and their interpretation of what is being said. Since 911 President Bush has said that the struggle we are presently involved in will take a long time (more than one administration) and be dealt with in many ways (diplomatic and militaristic as the situation warrents).
Right now Iraq is the vocal point of what is going on in the Middle East, and the Near East. It is the vocal point of how we, in the West, is being challenged to deal with the complex situastion that exists in that part of the world. A situation that is bound to expand to other parts of the world.
Yes, some have made statements as to how easy, or how long actions and our involvement in places in Iraq will last. They have been largely more on the order of personal opinions than the public stand and policy of the administration if one were to really listen and understand what is going on, and the implications any action that may be considered or even untaken.
