Okay, I'd been thinking about this for a while, but in the age thread, several people mentioned that they had met people who were much "older" than their stated age or others who were much "younger" than their stated age.
What about you? Are you an old or young soul?
What are you looking for in a relationship/mate when it comes to this subject?
(I'm going to wait to make my post - curious as to what others are going to say.)

How would you define old/young soul? Does it have to do with maturity levels/energy levels, etc.?

This is the post that prompted the thread, but as I said, I had been thinking about it off and on for a few years - and it actually began again during the GT.
So, I guess - maybe it'd be lifestyle and if we think "young" or "older". Does that make sense?
For me, I am 47. Most everyone who meets and interacts with me thinks I'm in my early 30's. Is it all about looks? I don't think so. In reality, before I turned 24, I was always taken as being older than my age, and when I turned 24, I said that I caught up chronologically to where I had always felt mentally, and that I wasn't going to move beyond that age. And since 24, I've always been taken as younger than my age. However, I certainly have the mentality of a 24 year old. As I've aged, the "mentality" has moved up, but it's not my current age.
Does that help?
I know that I have met people my age or maybe a year or two older, and upon first meeting them, I thought they were in the middle 50's! I was shocked to find they were near my age. *He* married one of them.
I'm just curious if others have had this same thing in their life - if they feel like a different age than the calender says they are in reality.

Hmmm...I guess I'm probably pretty close to my age anyways. I think people will usually guess I'm slightly younger than I actually am. Maybe only a couple years though. It was really sad last winter when I had somebody ask if I was in high school. I really don't think I look that young! At the same time, though, I've always found that I relate to people older than me better and most of my friends are older as well. I guess that's why I hang out here where most people are older than me rather than in the forum designed for my specific age group.

I've thought about this for awhile. I think I'm an old soul. Old souls are more about wisdom. Their world view is of of someone who's gained an experience in living. I'm not striving anymore or trying to prove anything or achieve anything. I'm just living....with confidence that whatever comes my way, it's just part of the journey and I'll get through it. I've lost most of my fear and I realized the other day that the only fear I have is of dying and leaving my daughter behind. If I didn't have her, I won't have much fear of dying. Old souls know not to take life seriously as living is a serious business and that's the only way you'll live without being burdened with everything.
Looks wise, I look about 10-15 years younger. My body looks like I'm still in my early 20s I play like I'm one. My 11 year old daughter sometimes think I'm her older sister because I can challenge her in anything physical and win. I know that won't last for long. But for me, this is what's living is about. I don't feel a certain age unless I look closely in the mirror and examine every age lines and spots on my face. I think I'm starting a second phase of life when one is equipped with wisdom and knowledge but feels like there is so much more to learn and explore.
In relationships, I'd really like to find someone like me.

I do think I'm a young soul. I'm certainly not 24 though. I have lived way too much life for that. And, I have way too much life left to live - but I will not do it frivolously.

This question has so many sides to it! I'm an older person, but am pretty "young" for my age. I think part of that comes from having children a bit later than some and being a high school teacher for many years. Since I was divorced through all my kids' school years, and didn't hang out with many people my own age (the all-couples thing), I just did what I liked.
On the other hand, the "young/old soul" thing is kind of a new-agey thing, implying that you have the wisdom and long perspective of a soul who has seen many lifetimes. I had a friend who was into that and often told me I was an "old soul". I think it's just a person who has the combination of analytical ability, a deep sense of intuition, and a "this too shall pass" attitude toward life.

I think I would say I'm a young soul. I know I probably haven't had hard experiences in my life the way some have. As far as looks go, people have often been surprised at my age, thinking I look younger. and thats fine with me, I just don't want it to be because I'm acting immaturely!!

I'm 31 and a half but people never think I'm more than early 20s. I'm also a bit emotionally immature, so I guess I'm a young soul.

Interesting thoughts Lisa.
Though at times it is hard for me to remember I am as old as I am I would consider myself older then my age in some aspects.
On the other hand most people who know me in real life think I am younger. Since I don't think I look young for my age I would guess their thoughts would be more due to my lifestyle and activity level then my looks.
On here I imagine people think I am older then I am since most my post are serious in nature.
Circumstances surrounding how people know me I think plays a huge role in how people perceive my age.
In real life I am light hearted, full of joy and smiles. I tend to love life and live it fully.
One of the reasons I think it is hard to know people online is because it is very one dimensional.
Until a person spends time with me I think I seem old, once they spend time with me I think I seem young.

Lisa, I agree with that. It depends on what aspect of our lives that we are talking about. We can be "old souls" if we use the wisdom that God has given us and we can be "young souls" if we enjoy life and the things God has given us.
That is sooo true! And really its the way it should be.

I turned 35 a few months ago. From my early 20's until I was almost 30, I did not take too good care of my body. Now, however, I am in very good shape. I was talking with a co-worker this morning about our ages. I guessed that he was a lot older than he actually was. And, when I told him how old I was (he's almost 10 years my junior), he seemed a little surprised.
Growing up, I was usually mistaken for someone older. For example, my sophomore year in high school, I was asked if I was a junior or senior in college. Now, though, when I tell people that I'm in my mid 30's they sometimes look at me funny. Since I am now fully moved and just have my unpacking and rearranging to do, I'm in the process of getting back into a regular workout routine. Both alternating between cardio and strength training/calisthenics.
More or less, I feel pretty young. I normally have a good amount of energy and pretty high activity level. Sometimes, considering all that I've been through, I am surprised that I'm in as good of shape as I am. And, I give thanks to God for that.
