McCain's comment People have been taking Michelle Obama to task for the comments she made about being proud of America for the 1st time in her adult life. Well, should John McCain be taken to task for similar comments? Were his comments unacceptable or should we call it even by saying that both of them misspoke and their comments were taken out of context? If there are differences please state them

McCain was proud of his country before being a POW but being a POW and losing his rights brought the reasons he was proud of his country into shape contast. Was Michelle proud of her country before her statement?

I love my country but if I became a POW and lost my rights, I would later say I really love my country or I never really realized how much I loved my country until I was a POW. Those statements wouldn't mean I didn't love my country before.

So are you saying that maybe he was taken out of context? The argument can be made about Ms. Obama. Her comment about this was the 1st time she was proud did not mean she did not love this country before. I love this country, but there are many things about it I'm not proud of. Maybe she said what she said because as a African American, there has not been too many things she can be proud of based on this country's history and treatment to minorities. So now back to the comments made by both, is it safe to say that both were taken out of context and these quotes should be chalked up as a non-issue?

So she wasn't proud of America when Harold Washington became Mayor of Chicago. So she wasn't proud of America when Carol Mosley Braun became US Senate from Illinois. So she wasn't proud of America when Mission Specialist Mae C. Jemison from Illinois went into space.

Who knows she probably was, but I gurantee she was not proud how minorites have been treated in this country. I'm proud of Colin Powell, he's one of my hero's and to a certain degree I'm proud of Barack Obama but I'm sure as heck not proud at some of the things within this country's history. Coming from her perspective she was justified. The reason some are so up in arms because people are making opinions on stuff they have no knowledge about except for what they see on TV. Of course her perspective and experience as a minority is going to be different from the mainstream.

It's a massive double standard. I doubt the media, or the same people who made a stink about our future first lady, will even pay attention to this. This is a stupid thing to argue about anyway, though. We shouldn't choose our president based on who has the gaudiest display of patriotism.
