I have a heavy heart this weekend because it'll be one year (on Monday) since my husband died. We were married almost 13 years. My husband was an alcoholic who created a lot of problems for a lot of people. So, most people I know have a hard time understanding why I'm upset this weekend. But, it's still hard for me to go past all the holidays and other times of the year that had meaning in my marriage. (My husband loved fall for example.) I'm doing better than I was earlier this year, but I still have my moments of pain regarding his passing.
Also, I occasionally think about what dating will be like when I decide to try that. I'm afraid that I'll fall back into my pattern of dating men with "problems". If/when I date again--I want to date a GODLY man who doesn't have so many worldly problems. I think I need to pray as to timing and wisdom regarding that issue too.
Dear Lord,
Keep me close to You this weekend as I struggle with this pain. Please allow me to find peace in You! Allow me to realize that others will not understand my suffering, but that You will be my comfort instead!
May You open my mind regarding my future--what-ever that may contain.
All of this~in Your name, Jesus!
Amen,
C J

Thank you both so much for your prayers!

I could feel peace as soon as I began to pray about this because the bible says:

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 4)

Lord God, please have mercy upon Chrystal-J-007. I humbly ask that you look down upon her with mercy and tenderness. Remove the burdon of sorrow that rests upon her heart and give her a light spirit. Show her a way out of the misery that she is in, and allow her mind to float towards things that will give her joy and comfort during the holidays. Surround her with family and friends who can comfort her and bring her moments of happiness when she is feeling down, and lend her your mighty self for her to cling to when her storms of sadness seem too much to bear. Please remind her that her husband is in a better place, and that he no longer has to deal with his affliction of alcoholism.

Also, Lord, give her clarity towards how you want her to progress with her future. Let your will guide her and make her strong and couragous in whatever path she takes in the coming times. Most importantly, bless her for her faith in you, comfort her with your mighty and gentle arms, and let her know that you are always close to her in whatever she does so that she might continue to grow in her relationship with you. Lord, you are the Blessed Father of all of us. When we rejoyce, you rejoyce with us. And when we grieve, you grieve also, and come to us for comfort and solace. Please come to Crystal-J-007 at this time and make your presence felt to her so that she might know your comforting ways and loving heart in her time of sorrow.

Lord God, I also pray for Crystal-J-007's husband. It sounds as though he had a rough time on this Earth. I humbly ask that you have mercy upon his soul as he has now joined you in the next world. Grant him rest in Heaven with you, and keep him safe until he can be reunited with his wife once more. I humbly and confidently ask for all of this in the name of our One True Savior and Redeemer, Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us.
Thank You for fond memories of those we love even though they are no longer of this earth. Help ease the pain of them, and heighten their joy.
Lord, comfort Chrystal-007 in her thoughts of possibly dating someone again. Help her to recognize her helpful heart and giving nature and yet realize that she will not lose who she is by not maxing out what she knows of her character.

In Jesus' name,
Amen

Thank you~that is so sweet of you to say!

I'm trying to take it one day at a time. It's a rollercoaster of emotions. Sometimes I'm bitter that my husband was such an alcoholic and left me broke. (I only have a small retirement to live on.) Sometimes I feel sorry for my husband cuz his life was so miserable (even though he brought it on himself). Sometimes I'm sad that I wasn't able to get him to embrace the love of Jesus. Sometimes I'm depressed that I wasted my time with him--time that could of been spent with a loving man who enriched my life with joy. And sometimes I wish he was still alive so I could keep trying to bring him to Christ. And, of coarse, I remember the good times we had at the beginning of our marriage before his drinking took over.

I've been dreading the 29th all month. But, after today, I'm going to try to move on and not dwell on the past. I've grown a lot in Christ in the last few years. And I'm very grateful for that.

Thanks to everyone who's prayed for me. It's your prayers that keep me strong!

C J

Chrystal, we don't know what kind of talk your husband may have had with the Lord moments before his death. I hope that gives you some comfort.

Father, we lift up Chrystal to You today. Hold her extra close today Lord. Give her comfort and peace. Help her also in the coming year, in every way that You know is best and most of all help her to continue to grow in You. In Your love. In Jesus name. Amen

Thank you--I hope he did "make his peace" with the Lord before he died. I do worry about that sometimes.

My husband died three months ago. We were married for 33 years. He was also an alcoholic and the cause of a lot of pain to people around him. I also miss him and feel lonely. It does sound strange to people who do not understand thinking that I should be relieved not having the stress of wondering whether he would be arrested for drunken driving, killing someone on the road, causing a vehicle accident nevermind the embarresment that I had to go through many a times. But we married because of love share two beautifull children and my life was organised around his alcoholism. So I do understand how you feel and everytime I feel the hurt and loneliness and pray for healing of the pain I will have you in my prayers and pray that God will make your life a more pleasant one till He comes to fetch you.

Crystal I know how you feel having the same rollercoaster emotions. You could be describing my life. I would like you to correspond with me may be we could help each other through this as the one knows exactly how the other feels. I also have bitter feelings that my life was waisted because of his drinking. We cannot change the past but i believe that God saw how I cared for my husband under very difficult circumstances which you most probalby did as well. I believe that He is going to open a door for a new life and bless us for the care we gave to someone who could not care for themselves. God is good. If God wants to bless you with a God fearing partner He will but please do not fall into the same trap again.
