One of my pastors recently got into a conversation with an atheist (self-identified - their kids have a swimming class together) and this man expressed a desire to talk with a Christian who could speak in-depth about a number of issues - science, and philosophy and so forth.

My pastor recommended me to him, and so tomorrow (7/22) we are getting together for coffee (I joked with my pastor later, "Great, you set me up on a blind date with an atheist!").

I would love prayers for four things:

1. I would be pleasant and kind, and resist the urge to become argumentative, and be an excellent ambassador for Christ.
2. That God would work in his heart beyond the intellectual nature of our conversation.
3. That I would have the wisdom to respond to his questions.
4. That, as much as a possible, for the sake of demonstrating the love of Christ, a friendship could develop that would allow for ongoing conversations.

Thanks saints!

Dear Heavenly Father I lift up this meeting to you.
I pray Lord you will prepare the way before these men.
I pray Lord that your truth and love will be revealed and expressed through Jacks words and actions.
Lord I pray that there will be a pleasant atomosphere and calm spirit during this meeting.
Lord I ask that this meeting would be an opportunity for seeds to be planted or watered.
I pray that you will be in their midst Lord.
I thank you Lord for the willingness Jack has to share your word with this person.
Help him to communication your love and truth in a direct way that is comphehendable to this gentleman.
I pray Lord this is a begining of a freindship which will bring glory to you.
Thank You Lord
In Jesus Name
Amen

Hi there,

Remember, you can't convince anyone into heaven.

For a Christian you only need faith, and for an atheist, there is often never enough proof.

If this person is seriously seeking, the Holy Spirit can use your words and your love and He will do the rest. you don't have to be perfect, cuz we never can be. :)

Last thought, the book, The Case For Christ, by Lee Stroebel, a former journalist and former atheist, is the best book I ever read in my life for seeking atheists, who really secretly want to find God.

love
pw

and bless your time together tomorrow.

Father God,

I pray for this meeting, a chance to have a conversation. He would not have asked for the meeting if he did not acknowledge that he has that God sized hole in his spirit. Please bless Jhud with the wisdom to meet and answer any question. Allow him the patience to endure the "wisdom" of the world. Give him the grace to develop a friendship, if you so order, to show this "atheist" what he is missing. Make his paths strait, and open the doors that need to be opened.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Hi Jhud,

What an honour and priviledge to be asked to do this. The pastor must have seen some commendable qualities in you.

God bless you. I'll be praying for you.

Have fun on your blind date !!!!!

Thanks for all your prayers folks, God was more than faithful,

I don't have time right now to go into too many details, but suffice to say we had an excellent conversation, and I got to share my testimony at length (not hard, since he kept asking questions about it) and we will be getting together again soon.

One thing I didn't expect - conviction. I just spent three hours talking with an atheist who has read entirely through the Bible twice , taking notes all the while so that he could discover what it really says. I hate to say it, but I know very few Christians who have done as much. Ouch.

If you could, I would appreciate more prayers for this man - he is coming to church with us this Sunday.

Pray nothing would happen between now and then that would keep him from coming

Pray that he would be impressed with the lives of the believers there.

Pray that God would make Himself real to him.

Pray that God would open his ears to truth.

His name is Paul. Thanks folks!

Lord, I pray for Paul. Let him come to this church, and let your truth be revealed to him. Grant in his heart that he might be open and willing to listen and accept Jesus Christ, your Beloved Son, as his Savior.

Lord, we are all sinners on this Earth. But all who seek you and accept you as their Lord through Christ, will find not just you, but everlasting life. Paul seems to be willing to seek you. Please let him being to seek you, so that he might be one of those who finds everlasting life. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Amen.

Father God,
A man named Paul has agreed to attend church with Jhud and his wife this coming Sunday, and You know this. It would be pleasing to them if Paul finds no reason not to make that visit, and You know this as well.

I join in the prayers of others for Paul- especially for courage and the opportunity to think new/refreshed thoughts. That Paul receive genuineness from Jhud's church family. That as Paul wonders why he is there, and if he does indeed have life all figured out, that he be open to a still small voice telling him he is loved. A voice that at the same time is crystal clear to Paul, one he cannot claim he didn't hear.

In the life-saving name Jesus I pray,
Amen
