I have to get off just now but wanted to encourage others to help pray for Georgia. These people (and those responsible in Russia) do need our prayers -- I've been meaning to start a prayer thread for them since shortly after hearing the news. Lord please be merciful in this situation......

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for not requiring we know what we are praying about when we pray. Thank You for Jesus, for Your Word, and Your Spirit.
I pray that You provide clear and unified thinking to the leaders of the USA in discerning what actions are taken in response to what has happened, and for the intelligence agencies that strive to provide our leaders with factual information on which to decide.

Father,
Thank you for your all knowing goodness. Please intervene to help Georgia to be truly be free from oppression. Guide the leadership of Russia to do what is best. We pray this in name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Father, I pray that the people of Russian and Georgia would know peace; that you would help in the physical, emotional, and national healing that needs to take place in both countries, especially Georgia with all the destruction and lives lost. Out of this, allow those in Russia and Georgia to see you in a way they never have before and I pray they would come to you and find the peace you give no matter the circumstances.

Also praying in agreement with the above prayers. Lord pour down your mercy upon Georgia and Russia and somehow bring some good out of this horrible situation; may your name be glorified and your people be able to reach out in the strength of your love. In Jesus name amen.

Lord Jesus we thank you for the blessings that you shower down upon your people, and we praise you for the plans that you have for your creation. We ask Lord Jesus that you pour down your mercy upon Georgia and Russia and somehow bring some good out of this horrible situation; may your name be glorified and your people be able to reach out in the strength of your love. We ask these petitions based on the promises of your Holy Word, that they be done in the power of your Holy Spirit, in your good will and timing, and to the Glory of your Kingdom. Thank You for Your many blessings. I pray for all our US armed forces and diplomatic efforts involved in efforts to bring, maintain, or enforce peace in this world. Grant them peaceful rest tonight and ongoing righteous discernment in completing their tasks.

Lord, I saw an article yesterday on MSNBC.com. It was about this war, and it said in the title that people were crying out "Where was God?" Lord, were you there? I believe that you were, and I pray now that you are there still. The Red Horseman has ridden across this country, Lord. Where there once was peace, there is now bloodshed and tears. Lord, I pray that you will bring this situation from a cease-fire to a permanent peace. There are stuggles for both power and independence going on in Georgia, God. Let the leaders of all parties involved, including those in Russia, put aside their weapons and negotiate at a bargaining table; not in war rooms. May they see the pain and anguish and spilled blood that their people are now suffering from. Please, God, place your healing hands over all those who have thus far survived the combat in Georgia, both civilians and soldiers alike. Show them mercy in this midst of this strife, and lead their country to peace. Comfort all those that seek you in the middle of this violence, and help those who do not seek you to learn to trust in you for their safety. But most of all, protect all of those in jeopardy, especially the most innocent, so that they might be spared from this evil. Once peace has come, may they glorify your name and pray to you for this to never happen again.
I do this humbly in the Holy Name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lord I pray also for the Russian officer quoted in this article, that you soften his heart and help him to turn to You. Oh Lord our hearts break as does yours at these atrocities. I pray you make it all turn for the good and that your name be glorified. Give us opportunities to help and let us be responsive to the need here in America. And give the heads of nations wisdom to know what to do next; let them use compassion and integrity and caution also. Help us to be guided by your hand. In Jesus name amen.

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for peace, returning again to Georgia. May it continue unhindered, and recovery come swiftly. Please giude and protect those working with humanitarian relief efforts there, and also the armed forces of the USA wherever they are tonight. Help them complete what needs completing and return to a greatful people.
