Hello everyone. As you can see this is my first post. I've been looking around and reading threads for about a week and decided to get in on the action! With this being an election year I've been praying for our country more than usual. Praying that our country would have a revival and that we would elect Christian politicans. But then I pray that God's will would be done. My question is, could it be that it is not God's will that this country have revival and become a country that obeys Him? I understand that it is God's will for everyone to have a relationship with Him, that He loves us and doesn't want anyone not to be saved. I understand that He is love and He is completely good and perfect, but could it be that in order for Jesus to return certain things must happen or will happen, and is it possible that one of those things might just be the U.S. drifting further away from God? I guess what I am trying to say is that we can't always see the big picture as God sees it. It was horrible that Jesus had to die on the cross, but that was God's will. It would be horrible if America turned into just another godless, socialist country(if we are not already there), but is it wrong for me to think that it could actually be God's will?

I think drawing a comparison between the sacrifice of Christ and the apostasy of the USA is comparing apples and oranges. By sacrificing Christ, salvation was won for all of humanity. The rapid decline of morals in the United States is a symptom of the approaching end of the age. Personally, I don't think it is ever "God's will" for people to turn away from Him, but rather that it is inevitable in the human dynamic. However, by praying for mercy, God may yet send a spirit of Revival to our nation. As far as praying for the election... God has been systematically destroying my faith in the political system. At this point my prayer is "God, I don't care who wins... save the unborn in this nation." Adam

Why not pray for the Lord to reveal his will in this matter, so you will know what to pray for.

I don't think God ever wants bad things to happen. And I don't think he wants people to stop believing in him. So I don't think he would want the US to become a country that doesn't know him. That said, I'm also not sure that God's plans include the US always being the dominant country in the world. As much as I love living in this country, and appreciate the easy life it gives me, my number 1 priority is to the Kingdom of God. Everything worldly, at some point, dies. It's no different with this country. That said, who knows if we're close to that or not. There's not sure way to know until after it's happened.

I have given this a lot of thought as well. I have come to the conclusion that it is unknowable to the human mind without Divine revelation. (And God has not revealed it to me, I don't think.) I believe, based on historical and biblical evidence, that the US will wane in power, but not entirely disappear. Think of the great civilizations of the past: Greek, Roman, Persian, British... It's in God's hands. We are at His mercy. There are biblical examples of God delaying judgment on a nation because of prayer. And it is commanded that we pray for our leaders. So you are doing right. We have to lean on Romans 8:28. God is good. All the time. quote:

Praying for God's will... What else is there to pray for? So many time as of late I have witnessed people in prayer asking God for what they want rather than what they need, God's will in their lives. I understand people fear of the unknown in their lives so they ask God for the comfortable, the safe, the known, what they would like to happen, their way. God will reveal his plan in your life as He sees fit to do. Prayer for the election and for our country is a absolute, prayer for revival is an absolute, prayer for a turn around of the leaders, the economy, for our schools are all absolutes... these things would not have to be prayed for if we as Christians, as redeemed children of God had kept our covenant with Him in the first place. If Christians had not given up their God given rights in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and now revival would not be needed because we would still be vital and following God's will. America and the American Christian have the leadership and country they deserve because they did not ask for God's will, they asked for big houses, expensive cars, fancy vacations, high paying jobs, freedom from all they did not want in their lives. Never asking for God's will but their wants, their desires, me...me...me...me... never God just me. Please if this offends I am sorry, but at 63 I have viewed much change until now a greater number of Christians have formed seeker friendly churches, properity ministry churches, churches more intrested in the work of the church rather than the WORK of the CHURCH. America does not need a revival the church needs a revival, then and only then will America get its revival.

Welcome to our new members - Macaloot and USCOC Chaplain. Jesus knew what He was talking about when He taught us: Thy will be done. When He prayed in the Garden of the Mount of Olives, just before His arrest, He wished that His forthcoming cruel ordeal and crucifixion would just go away. But then He said: Thy will be done. And He meant it. Today, many people pray "Thy will be done" but they really mean "as long as it is what I want". This is because deep inside, they really do not have the confidence and the trust that God's will is really what is good for us. What is the best way forward to meet all of our needs. If only we had more confidence in Him, we'd be able to say: Thy will be done - and really mean it. If only .....
