I know this topic might not fit in this forum, but I actually wanted to hear from families that have the same "back ground" as I... homeschooling their children. But, if it needs to be moved, go ahead.

Our family is trying something new for Bible this year, or family devotions...whatever you want to call it. I am going to use preaching on Video or CD's or tapes. We are doing The Armor of God right now, we also have some about the Fear of God. These preachers seem to hold my kids attention for the most part.

What are some preachers... or some Bible studies that you have used that you REALLY enjoyed. It can be a Bible study, or a special sermon your church did. I'm just trying to get some ideas of where to go next after these tapes are done.

What "popular" preachers/t.v evangelists out there, do you find are reliable?

This is a little more for teens, but we are going to use "Demolishing Strongholds" by Answers in Genesis. It has four very entertaining speakers (Ken Ham, Carl Kerby, Charles Ware, and Bill Jack) who definitely hold our kids attention (and we enjoy them as well). It addresses how much evolution is feed to our kids in society; movies, etc. It combines speaking (lecture-style) to a live audience of teens, with cartoon style images (live speaker or audience will turn into comic-book style cartoon) and video clips from various movies, TV shows, etc.

This site has stories for both teens and younger children.

You do not need the internet for them either. Order the cd and put it into your computer. Your students can read it themselves or have it read to them through the computer-with or without music.

For our kids, age 9 to 15, (they were younger when we started -- maybe 7 to 13) we've gone through all of Ken Ham's creation videos, and others produced by Answers in Genesis and we've also gone through John Piper's DVD series "The Burning Center". A particular favorite of all the kids was Frank Peretti's message "The Chair" ( I would HIGHLY recommend that to audiences of any age!). We tried just listening to sermons on CD and they didn't hold the attention of the younger ones as well...although we still listen to them during the day, along with Adventures in Odyssey and Down Gilead Lane (they play online!).

Also, we have watched "That the World May Know" and REALLY like that series.

"Drive Through History" is great, but it might be more history and less Bible than what you're looking for.

If you are really set on using a preacher or other multimedia? If so, this suggestion is not for you.

Work through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation...and don't just read it, LIVE it. My mother did this with us when I was about 10 yo. I know the Bible pretty well and I credit that time with it.

We started with Genesis at night--lights off, curtains closed to block any stray light..."In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth, and the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the Spirit of God was moving over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light" ...and we all jumped up and ran through the house and turned on every light inside and out. And when God separated the land from the water, we had a plastic pan filled with mud and water and we moved the mud to one side, separating the "land" and water. When God created the sea creatures, we moved the fish tank into the room...when he created the animals, we gathered our toy animals to populate the "land" God created.

In Exodus, when the Children of Israel were wondering in the desert for 40 years, we were wandering around the sand box at the playground across the street.

We built the ark of the tabernacle, when the temple was built, we built the temple, we rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem with Jeremiah, we braved the hungry "lions" (aka our cats) with Daniel. When the things we had built were mentioned in later passages, we pulled them out

When we reached the New Testament, we built some of Jesus's parables (the one about the house on the sand and the house on the rock didn't work so well...) and when the crucifixion came, when the temple veil was torn, we cut the temple veil from our temple...

Looking back, I realize there must have been a lot of preparation on the part of my mother, but to me, this is the best way to learn the Bible.
