If this were simply rape, forced or otherwise, this would be a routine dog bites man story. But it isn't. Usually the police are on the side of the kids. This time the police and the school teamed up to emotionally abuse the students of Camino High School.

Last month the police visited 20 different class rooms on one day and told the kids that some of their classmates had been killed in auto accidents. To make it especially real, they named the victims. This plot was supposedly designed to convince the kids not to drink and drive.

I doubt such a heartless story convinced anyone about drunk driving, but I'm sure the police and teachers are much despised.

School fakes the death of students

I'm still trying to decide how I feel about this story. Emotional abuse? Meh. I don't know if I'd go that far. And I happen to think it might influence some kids to not drink and drive. If this school is in an area with a high number of drunk driving accidents among teens, they might have a good point making this kind of statement.

This is another stupid variation of the "scared straight" idea. Scare tactics have never been shown to have a positive impact on reducing the targeted behavior. The overpaid morons who approved and carried out this stunt should be blistered.

I think what they did to those kids was horrible and inappropriate. Whoever thought that was a good idea to tell them someone died when they didn't should be disciplined severely. As cow said, these types of tactics have never been shown to work.
