In an unrelated thread I didn't want to take off topic, JChaz said this: quote:
Many years ago, there was a VHS released at a NQC in Nashville (compiled by Eddie Crook, I think) of some GSJ footage. It had some of the groups on it that Gaither didn't mention... Wendy Bagwell & The Sunliters, The Singing Echoes, The Lancers (now known as The Diplomats), Steve Sanders, The Hoppers, and a few that Gaither did use, like The Goodmans, The Dixie Echoes, and The Florida Boys. Wish I had gotten one of those... Roy Tremble sang in a group called the Lancers some years back, in the 60s or 70s before joining the Cathedrals. http://cathedralstribute.com/heritage_la.html http://cathedralstribute.com/members_rt.html Any idea if this was the same group?

DM, I kind of doubt it's the same group. bulba2 (Jim Pearson) can tell us for sure, if he sees this thread. I think The Diplomats (a pro male qt of the late 60s/early 70s), morphed into The Lancers (a pt mixed group of the the late 70s/80s/early 90s.), at some point, around the time that Rita started singing with the group. In the mid 90s, they reverted to the Diplomats mantra. The early also Diplomats included Jerry Redd and Calvin Runion. Other than Jimmy, I'm not sure of the other members. The Lancers that were on the Gospel Singing Jubilee was definitely Rita & Jimmy's group. Not sure about the group Roy Tremble was a part of. Where were they based, DM?

I know next to nothing about them, except I read somewhere it was a trio with Jim Brown and Art Bain.

So do you happen to know if it's the same Lancers? Also, do you have any clue what years Roy sang with them? Sorry, but another question just popped into my mind. Who sang which part? Roy became famous for singing tenor, but he could sing all three parts.

I don't have Roy's email address here at work but I'll email him when I get home and see if he will either pop over here to answer or send me the answers.

The original Lancers was formed in 1966 with Roy Abercrumbee singing Tenor , Jim Pearson singing lead and L.M. Thorne singing Baritone and Gene Shelton singing bass , with a 3 pc band that included Morris Willis on the Piano, Mike Pinion on bass and Scott Corn on drums, The group really got its break when we became the opening group for all of the Wally Fowler Concerts. Roy Tremble did fill in for us for a while and then We join Calvin Runion and formed the Diplomats , Calvin just left Coy Cook and the Senators to form his own group. The Diplomats then consisted of Jerry Redd singing tenor , Jim Pearson singing lead , L.M. Thorne on Baritone Calvin Runion on Bass ,with the Lancers three piece band. After a few years passed Jerry Thompson came and sung tenor until we disbanded as the Diplomats. Calvin then took the name Evangels' quartet which Coy Cook had started out of Enterprise Alabama and we became Calvin Runion and the Evangels' Qt. which consisted of Calvin , Jim Pearson and a gentleman from the Oakland Qt Paul Johnson ,and Jerry Thompson and we had a 4 piece band. It lasted a couple of years then Jim Pearson join the Americans Quartet out of Birmingham Al. Which Consisted of bass John Gresham of the Thrasher Bro. , Ronnie Booth tenor of the Rebels Qt., Lee Kitchens baritone of the Sons of Song and we had the Thrashers Bro. Band. Then I met my wife Rita , the same year Rita was stricken with cancer and I came off the road to take care of her. About 6 months passed she was healed of cancer and that's when our ministry started together and been together ever since

Neat! Do you have any recollection of what years Roy Tremble was with you, and what part he was singing?
