This thread is for any of you that knew Dottie Rambo and would like to post your thoughts. Thank You and God Bless. From Ann Downing: I wanted to make a few comments about my long-time friend Dottie Rambo's departure from this life to her ETERNAL LIFE. I don't know how many of you have heard that Dottie was tragically killed in a bus accident early this morning (Sunday) in Missouri. It's a huge shock and painful news to hear on this Mother's Day. I've known Dottie since 1964 or 65, meeting her and the rest of the Rambos when I was with the Speers. We were "label mates" on the Heartwarming Record Company label...then the Downings were with that company, also. The Benson Company, who owned Heartwarming Records, was wonderful in bringing their groups together for retreats, special concerts for Christian Booksellers Conventions, group TV tapings for CBN and so many other opportunities for us to get to know each other better. I don't think I've ever heard a "bad" Dottie song...of course some I liked better than others because of my personal taste, but they all are unique and "Dottie". I started singing "Sheltered In The Arms Of God" in 1969 and have been singing it ever since. At the Gaither tapings, award shows, TBN appearances together she would inevitably ask me, "Ms Ann, are you gonna sing MY song tonight"? I knew which song that was...."Sheltered". I just wanted to say here that I loved Dottie....have prayed for her always and will miss her so!! I would like to ask y'all to pray for all the Rambo family...it's a far-reaching family. And pray for Larry Ferguson (her manager and long-time friend of mine) and his wife and children who were all injured in the accident....I was the first artist that Larry promoted in Louisville before he'd actually met Dottie. He was just a huge fan, talked about her all the time and longed for the day when he'd get to meet her, which of course, took place and he's been her manager for several years, a dream come true for him.

From Libbi Perry Stuffle: Wow, what a day this has been! When I went to bed this morning at 5:34 am after sitting up with Tracy while driving the bus to get home in time for church this morning, I had no idea that I would wake up to the sounds of my phone beeping that I had a text message with the message.....Dottie was killed in a bus wreck this morning. I had to look at my phone twice to make sure I was reading it right. I immediately woke Tracy up and he said please make sure this is right, I just can't believe it. Well, it was right and true. Here's the police report from the Missouri State Police: At 2:19 a.m.,Missouri State Troopers responded to the accident that took place on I-44, two miles east of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. According to the Troopers' report, the 1997 Prevost Dottie was traveling aboard ran off the roadway, struck the guard rail and an embankment. Dottie was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County (Mo.) Coroner Don Lakin at 4:20 a.m. Aboard the bus were Dottie's product manager Christopher Barnes, Larry & Judy Ferguson, their children Pierce and Christian, and driver Ronnie Meadows. From reports Larry Ferguson (Dottie's Manager) is in critical condition along with Ronnie Meadows (the driver) and Chris Barnes. I grew up in the era when the Rambos were as we always said it "Big Time!" I remember the first time I heard her sing, I was blown away because I had never heard a woman sing that low and pretty. Her voice was so full and big. Not only could she sing and write, she was a very beautiful LADY. She dressed and acted like a lady. I just thought she was the most elegant lady I had ever seen and even years later, she still held that elegance and charm. When the Perrys started singing in 1970 we sang just about every Rambo's song we could learn. I have several favorites but these are the ones that I always even today still find myself listening to when I listen to the Rambos: Holy Hills of Heaven (my all time favorite Rambo's song) Build My Mansion Mama's Teaching Angels How To Sing Tears Will Never Stain The Streets of That City I Just Came To Talk With You Lord Too Much To Gain To Lose New Shoes Sheltered In The Arms of God If That Isn't Love He Looked Beyond My Faults And Saw My Need We Shall Behold Him March Around The Throne Gosh, I could just go on forever!! I don't think the lady ever wrote a bad song. Dottie just had a way of painting a picture with words. You can just close your eyes and you are there, standing in the middle of the song. You never had to second guess what the song was trying to say. For the past two years I have called Dottie on Mother's Day and we would talk about 2 hours at a time. We would talk a little, cry a little, but mostly we would do more laughing than anything. She was one of the funniest ladies I have ever met. The last couple of times we worked with her, we would go back and forth on stage about Men and how hard they are to live with sometimes. She would just laugh that little laugh she had and always got the last word in! She was so witty. Today, I miss talking to my friend, but I just know that she is in a far, far better place than this place. She has met face to face the one she tried to write about all of her life, She's sheltered in the Arms of God alright, SHE IS THERE!!!!! As much as one side of my heart is breaking right now, the other side is turning flips because she's HOME with her Lord and Master!! Dottie, I will forever miss your presence in the world, but I know it won't be long, until we'll ALL BE HOME!! Until then.... Happy Mother's Day, I love you LADY! Please lift Reba and her family up in prayer as they face the days ahead!

This was so tragic when I heard the news Sunday morning! I sat and shared with my wife so many stories of getting to know her and the Rambo family in 1970. We sang so many of her songs, had the joy of working many concerts with Dottie, Reba and Buck. Dottie was the "real deal" on and off stage, such a genuine Christian Lady! As I am sad at her passing, I am joyous as Dottie is in the presence of our King, Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, Larry, Chris, Ronnie and their families. My very first recollection of hearing the Rambos was in my home as a child. Mom was the musician in our family, and taught me and my brother how to harmonize from listening to families like the Rambos. Dottie's sweet countenance on album covers, on TV shows, and on stages where we would see them in concert was always a refreshing and comforting sight to a little boy who was enthralled with the wonder of music, and especially "Gospel" music - or, more specifically, Southern Gospel. Dottie, your music shaped my family's home life, and the music of my career and ministry. I still sing your songs in worship services, in concerts, and around my living room piano; passing on the beauty of the lyrics and melodies to my children. I did not know this word then, but Dottie's songs have always been "anointed". I was not even familiar with the use of that word coming from a fundamental Baptist background, other than teachings on the sacrificial lambs, and prophets pouring oil over people's heads for ceremonial rituals, as best I understood it then. Today, I enjoy the "anointing" that is residual on the songs of Dottie Rambo. Every time I hear them, they bring sweet assurance to my soul, precious memories of a wonderful childhood of musical training in the church, and the promise of one day joining Dottie as she and "momma ... teach angels how to sing". Although this is a very, very sad day in the Christian community in the natural, my mother and I talked about Dottie and all what she went through during her lifetime with the back issues she had and personal struggles throughout her life. But if you are a fan of any christian music, Dottie eventually touched your life. Her infulence can be heard in her songs, one of which, "I Go To The Rock," which was recorded by the late Danniebelle Hall stood out to me as one of my favorite Dottie songs. You see, Dottie had that qualities which songwriters do not have today and that is to write about the hope of heaven. Then too, she paved the way for many a Christian artist. I hope a lot of the Christian artists of today gave a debt to this woman and hopefully the GMA will give her props at next year's Dove Awards. This reminds us that we as artists and fans should honor our legends while they are still with us.
