Hey everybody I've been looking into possibly getting one of the revolve bibles. And well, while looking up stuff about it of course I found some opposition to it. Some feel that it's a "bad translation" or "PERversion" as one article put it. What do you think?

On the other hand, if you know of a teen who wouldn't open a "real" bible if their life depended on it, this is a good alternative. We're supposed to be reaching out to the lost. What's more attractive to an unsaved teen, a plain black book with HOLY BIBLE in big block letters or a slickly produced magazine that's actually the entire New Testament? In my opinion this is a good tool. I wouldn't recommend it as an everyday bible, but rather as a starting place. In fact, I've sold a few to parents with that plan in mind. Kinda like, "Here's a starter. If you'd like more I can recommend a good bible for you."

I'm not a teen and have a revolve bible,the same one in that link actually and Love it! I got it a few years ago at Aquire the Fire and read it all the time.I'm 29 but young at heart.I have lots of other regular bibles also though.

I wouldn't waste my money on it or allow my child to use it, if I had any, (or take it for free.) There is too much junk in there, just like in the Adult Christian Self-Help books and magazines. If it was only a translation of the Bible (not a paraphrase) with a modern cover I would probably say differently. But why all the extra junk?
For heaven's sake, why do we keep trying to reinvent the wheel? Let's just read what God has already revealed and take Him at His Word. Let's quit trying to add something useful to it or dumb it down and just live it and teach it. There is so much to be learned from studying the Bible in context and trying to shove it into topical Q&A or articles is very dangerous and leads to untruth.

That's fine if you're raised in a church-going family. But if you've never read or owned a bible they're a lot less intimidating. For someone like me, who never opened a bible until after I was saved, the idea of reading "THE BIBLE" was more than a little scary. Especially when someone hands you a King James with its 16th century grammar and vocabulary. Here we have the complete text of the New Testament with articles and features designed to help a teen understand in the context of the life they're trying to live. To me that's more than marketing, it's ministering.

I'm not saying we need to neglect the discipleship of new Christians (and I'd call handing a modern person a KJV and expecting them to understand it neglect due to both the different language used and the lack of guidence)- I'm just saying new Christians are to be taking "pure milk." We shouldn't be encouraging junked up milk. It's one thing to change the glass the milk is in for marketing... it's another thing to add to it and change it.

So then where do you draw the line? Is a two-tone or brightly colored cover acceptable? Some people would say no. Is a modern version like the NLT acceptable? Again, some people would say no. In the 8 years I've been selling bibles I've heard them all. There are people who won't find anything other than a black leather bound King James Version acceptable. Anything else cannot be a "real" bible. Me? I think if something will help draw a person closer to God then I'm all for it, even if it looks like a comic book (known as "The Picture Bible"). Looks to me like you fall somewhere in between, so we'll just have to accept it and move on.

If something is a translation of the Bible that people of that language can readily understand, not a paraphrase and not an outmoded translation that is difficult to understand in the language (like KJV,) it's acceptable. Otherwise it's a commentary and not a God's word. I don't care about covers or pictures or style. I do care about changing the Bible and adding man's opinions (like the refuel/revolve and paraphrases do.)
I desperately want others to get into the Word to grow closer to God, the same as you. The difference is that I have seen the lack of maturity and the clinging to traditions of man over the clear word when the Bible is replaced by Bible-like commentary. Quite frankly, I don't want to encourage anyone to start down that path even slightly. I want to encourage Christians to follow God by using His unadulterated Word. We can't trust the changes, but we can trust God.
It may be that we still disagree, and just have to move on. I hope that explaination helps you to understand "where I fall" and why.

. What does that teach? It teaches them to continue to look to OTHER PEOPLE for validation (teenage boys, no less!)...as if they need more of that instilled in them..
