LOL...Urdu is what a lot of people from Pakistan speak.

It's interesting. I've noticed lately, especially at our playgroup, that moms do want to connect with me, but keep back because of the language barrier. So I'm trying to reach out more. In the past, because I'm the minority in the neighbourhoood I kind of kept to myself and really only connected with the moms of Dh's background. But there are a lot of women who need help understanding Canadian customs and practices. And I'm starting to realize that I need to reach out to them more and help them. Which is going out of my comfort zone (which is why I was upset that the woman walked away yesterday!)

One thing I've learned from living in this neighbourhood is that a lot of Muslims, especially ones new to the country, have big misunderstandings of Christians. So I'm trying to reach out and get to know these women and show them that there are many similarities, especially amongst women. But there are definitely a lot of barriers.

Wow...what a powerful impact you could have on their lives if God can break those barriers down for you! I will pray for that and for opportunities for you to reach out and KNOW it is God's leading.

It sounds like you do have a wonderful opportunity. I hope things work out for you. I have two Pakistani friends who speak Urdu. We don't see each other as often, now that I have Nathan, but I really need to give them a call and see how they are doing. The younger sister even takes English classes at a local church. I've learned a lot from them, even though I was technically the younger sister's tutor for a while.

We are pretty tired at my house. Nathan had a very rough night due to a cold he's developing, and once I get him to sleep, I couldn't sleep myself. He's napping now, and I did lie down for 30 minutes, but I couldn't sleep. dH and I are still going out tonight, and Nana and Papa are watching the baby. He has no fever, just a runny nose. He should be fine.

Sarah, is your mom going to try and be there when the baby is born?

she is coming July 4-12 to visit...she can't take off before that or on a whim...she has been planning those dates since before I got pregnant. Last time she came was my birthday (right after my miscarriage) and she was talking then about coming again in early July...so it isn't planned to be because of the baby coming.

Well, since you go overdue anyway maybe you could schedule an induction for July 3/4? It's not the ideal situation but it could be a solution.

Except some have been induced early for pre-e, haven't they? We'll just have to pray super hard against that.

Oh yeah, I think Emma(or was it Hannah?) was a 37 weeker. We'll just pray that doesn't happen!

yes Hannah was induced early (37 weeks) because of pre-e...and Jake would have been if I had been at any other hospital with any competency at all. My BP this time is much higher at this time then it was at this stage with my last two, so there is always the possibility that this one will be early.

Ugh. Pray for Sandy and crew. They're about 2.5 hours away from here and the alternator went in their car. Justin can fix it, but they have to have it towed to where they can get a part. I think they're on the Thruway too, which I'm sure is a pain.

lexie--sounds like you have a great ministry opportunity. I have often thought about finding some way to minister to immigrant women. After watching Josiah go through culture shock, I imagine they must be having a rough time of it. We have many Somalis and Sudanese refugees in our city, many Asians as well. So many of them know very little English at all.

Sideways--hope Nathan feels better soon!

Oops! Biruk's up.

Well, they were at a rest stop, so at least not on the side of the road. I think they are at a part's store now.

I thought that you only notice an alternator problem when you try to start the car. Once the car is running you don't use it.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers on the opportunity I have in my neighbourhood. It is difficult. One mom that I get together with, her husband meets on a regular basis with someone else in the neighbourhood who is Christian and is here with the purpose of ministering to Muslims. But the husband is meeting with the guy so that he can argue with him, not that he has any interest in becoming a Christian. Hopefully God will break through that barrier one day, but honestly, it's hard to see it happening sometimes.

I tend to be of the idea that we'll agree to disagree. I recognize that they are as strong in their faith as I am in mine. I'll mention little things here and there, ask questions about their religion then tell them where ours stands on the issue, but other than that, I have a tough time getting into religion. But I figure, that I can at least befriend them and squash some of the stereotypes they have of Christians (Christmas time was especially fun!)

Well they were at a rest stop, so probably went in for a potty break or whatever and came out and it wouldn't start. Justin is handy though, so that's good.

I kind of figured they had to be at a rest stop since the car probably wouldn't have just stopped running and leaving them stranded. I guess that's what I was trying to say.

Paul says no...
actually the alternator charges the battery while the vehicle is running...so if it goes out then you are using just your battery and it isn't being recharged and will die eventually. He says also if you notice the lights going dim all of a sudden it's probably a sign the alternator is giving out and running on the battery charge.

I thought that was the case, Sarah, but Brian isn't here to ask. I think I've had a car die while I was driving down the road and it ended up being the alternator. It was like 11 years ago, so details are kind of fuzzy.

I thought it was too...so when Paul walked in the door I asked him...lol. We have had the alternator go out a few times on some of our vehicles....but Paul is the mechanic so all I have to do is find the money in the bidget to fix it, then he takes over....lol

The battery is used to start the car and is drained by starting/using electric things while the engine is not started. The alternator recharges the battery once it is started, so that it will start the next time.

I'm glad that it happened while Justin was there to deal with it, and that they could get it fixed.

we're here! We made it to Donna's finally.
Paul is right, the alternator started to go out, and Justin pulled into a travel plaza. Thankfully, a parts store was close and everything wasn't too much money. It was a little taxing on our budget...but God is the provider right?!
Anyhoo, Donna was so nice and stayed up to wait for us, and our kids are running amok as I type...
Night all!
I'll be hanging with Donna tomorrow...neener neener neener

Sandy and gang should be about home now, if they didn't take too long at ice cream where ever they ended up stopping.

Oh, and Sandy...my dishes are done and kitchen and dining room totally clean. Told you I had it under control.

Note to self...tie Sandy up next time she is here so she leaves my dishes alone. Although...if the next time she's here, I am 8 months pregnant...maybe I'll just pull up a chair and let her go.

We had a really good time...and you can't tie me up next time, because you'll be too round to catch me! (oh yeah! I said it! )
