So I just finished re-reading the Inspirations biography. and it got me wondering if any other groups had a book out. I don't know of any, so I'll ask the expert(s) here.

BTW, the Inspirations book is a great read, even if you're not a fan of the group.

There have been books about/by:

The Hoppers
The Greenes
Eva Mae LeFevre
The Statesmen
James Blackwood
The Goodmans (by Howard Goodman)
Joel & LaBreeska Hemphill
Verstal Goodman
Glen Payne & George Younce (Cathedrals)
Brenda Robinson (of New Desire)
The Legacy of Buck & Dottie Rambo
Driving Miss Dottie (by Larry Ferguson)
Bill Gaither
Gloria Gaither
Lily Fern Weatherford

Bob Terrell wrote one, that I think was called "The Men Of Music". It detailed the early days of Quartet singing all the way to the current day it was published.

Dr. Jim Goff (NOT Jerry) wrote one, but the name is slipping from my memory right now.

Speaking of Dr. Jerry... He's writted several teaching books, as had Brenda Robinson of New Desire. I have many of them, and they are ALL very good!!

Glorioa Gaither & Connie Hopper have written several inspirational books each, as well.

I have most of these biographies that I've mentioned. I'm sure there are others that I haven't listed...

There is a book titled "The Weatherfords, Gospel Music Legend and Legacy" by Tim Gardner and Gail Shadwell. Then another is called "With All My Heart, A Life in Gospel Music" by Lily Weatherford and Gail Shadwell. The later is Lily Fern Weatherford's biography. It is great reading and gives a lot of insight into gospel music.

Dr. Goff's book is Close Harmony.

I have also read books by Lou Wills Hildreth and Gerald Williams.

J.G. Whitfield: A Tribute In Essence by Debbie Fleming is a good read about the man who helped start The Singing News, NQC, and The Florida Boys, among other things.

Hidee,
Gerald Williams' autobiography has already been mentioned by Frog. However, I just thought I would add that it is titled "Mighty Lot of Singin'". It is an excellent read! James Sego and Henry Slaughter also have books. I'm sure Jake Hess' has also been mentioned, and it is wonderful. Lily Fern's book has some of the most hysterical stories! I have read most of the books listed. My Goodmans book is signed by Harold and Vestal, but I bought it that way at a flea market. In fact, most of my SGM related books are signed. I used to love to watch J. D. Sumner sign his name! He took great pride in giving that autograph! Oh what precious memories!

For all of the people wanting information on the business side of gospel music, Nick Bruno wrote a book called "The Gospel Music Truth". It is a very good source of information for those looking to make it in the business.

I emailed him after reading the book just to say thanks for the information in the book. My signature and contact info was at the bottom of the email and he called my cell # an hour later to say "you're welcome". I thought that was cool!!!

Someone mentioned James Sego... That was one of the first SG books that i was area of. Sometime later another book was released that centered more on Mrs. Naomi, although it was quite similar to the older book entitled, 'Sego".

Another great book, that I'd like to mention is by a person - who at first glance - you'd not really consider being from the SG world. It's called "Among My Klediments", and it was written by Country Entertainer, June Carter Cash (Johnny Cash's wife). It is an amazing book, that is FULL of stories about their family and their involvement with both secular and Christian music. Best of all, it shares in detail the depth of her Christianity and Christian heritage. Foster was lucky enough to win an autographed copy of this gem at the slient auction held during Ann Downing's Middle Tennessee Women's Retreat this past May. We got it pretty cheap, and found out when we got home that an autographed copy on ebay was selling for close to $100. Pretty cool, huh?

Rodney Griffin co-authored "God Wants to Hear You Sing." It is a very inspirational book about the impact that Southern Gospel has had on people.
