The Anchor Holds at 5:46 got a lot of airplay on area stations that play both SG & some CCM music but if my memory is correct most of the times I heard it it was requested by a listener.

Just a God Thing, I guess you'd say.

The actual time limit for songs that are aired is set by the individual radio stations. There is no hard and fast rule for it. I think it comes back to popular demand. If enough listeners want to hear a long song and will call and ask for it, then the station will put it on their play-list. If not, it probably won't happen. Back in my younger days, many radio stations would play entire albums when a group would release a new one. That was done mainly to benefit the artist by enticing people to go out and buy the album. That was a different genre too - rock. I think SG stations should do the same thing. When L5, the Booth Brothers, EHSSQ, etc. release a new project, stations should play the entire thing. Sometimes you might find little gems on there that would normally not get radio air-play. And those little gems just might persuade someone to buy that project.

One that gets butchered on Radio, the few times I have heard it is "The Old Ship of Zion" from Chattanooga Live by the Kingsmen. They always end it after the first tenor part is over, before Ray talks about messin' up and then they redo the last 2 verses.

Days of Elijah, sung by Judy Jacobs, is 8.5 minutes long. Our local 24 hour, all SG, FM station plays it every day between 6 and 7:00 p.m.

The smaller the station, the longer the songs. Do-it-all DJs need breaks, and naps.
