Is there anyone that doesn't use Apologia?

I don't know but I use secular textbooks and then just discuss the things we disagree with. When I got my grant from HSLDA last year I got a coupon for a free textbook from Apologia so I chose biology but that is probably the only one I will use. I am just transitioning into middle school for next year. Right now I have some books by McDougal Littel and will probably use them through middle school and if I'm still happy in high school.

Not every child will become a scientist. But, every child can become a person with a sense of wonder with a love of discovery. There should be a lot in every discipline of Science that is just plain fun and engaging. That, they can take with them wherever life takes them. quote:
ORIGINAL: shadowspring I used Beginnings Publishing Rainbow Science for middle school and L-O-V-E-D it. Written by a Ph. D. home school Dad, it was very user-friendly and thorough. The text is engaging for middle schoolers and yet still top-notch. It of course mentions the evolution-creation debate, but it is not the focus of every lesson. I think it only comes up once or twice. There is an extremely creative and fun lab that pretty much puts the subject to rest in the early lessons of the chemistry section. There are two lessons and a lab each week. The text book covers two years, a semester of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Integrated Science. There is a consumable lab workbook you need for each student, and there are lab supplies to purchase for each year. If you have more students coming up, with the second student you will only need to purchase consumable lab supplies and a new lab workbook.

I have several years before we reach middle school/high school, but at this point I don't expect to use any formal science textbook, unless I am teaching at the university in which case my son will take physics, chemistry, and possibly astronomy from me at the university as continuing education courses.

We never used Apologia. My husband didn't like the series much. We used secular science books all the way through. Are you looking for recommendations? For what grades/ages?

I'm looking for 7th/8th grade. We have been reading Bob Jones or A Beka Text books. In the earlier years they've done C.L.P Nature Readers.

What are you specifically looking for? What don't you like about Apologia, Bob Jones and Abeka? What do you think it is important for your children to know about science? Have you been to www.Homesciencetools.com to look and see what is available? They have a huge assortment of science supplies, but they also carry curriculum and many independent books as well.

I got Switched On Schoolhouse 2007 for all my classes last year, and it went well, except for math. I am bad at math, and so are my girls. The science, though went really well.
