They have the same concept as American Idol since Nigel is in the show judging. They have auditions all over the country. They have trained dancers and street dancers and people who just think they can dance. Nigel gives a very hard time for people who claimed they're dance instructors for kids and they can't dance and he really pretty much scold them. Then they pick the same number for boys and girls and they draw names on who will they partner with and draw the dance that they will have to learn with famous choreographers (who gets to be the third judge- the third judge alternates). Nigel and Mary are two main judges and comparing to AI -- Mary is no Paula. She will say what it is and if she loves it ...she will give her famous scream (which is always hilarious). They eliminate one boy one girl every week. The fun thing is when you see the street dancers learning the ballroom dance and if they have the talent, most of them turned out really great.

hmmm....sounds interesting. I will have to watch it when it comes on. Hubby found one show that was a dance competition last month or so. I can't remember what it was called, and it was on a channel we don't ever watch (MTV), but he was up in the middle of the night and found it. It was a group dance competition thing very similar to how you describe this one to be...hosted by Mario Lopez. Anyway...he liked that, so maybe he will like this one too.

Watched most of it, some of the delusional people are like, wow. I felt sorry for the blind girl, she is a good dancer but it would have been hard for her to learn everything since the show is so fast paced.

I like the very first girl who danced and that couple from Russia. And yes...so many delusional people but what I like about the judges...they will all say how it is and not doing a Paula Abdul.

Oh I missed it last night. I'd watched an earlier season, and was kinda disappointed. For the show promotes the competition being for all kinds of dancing, though it seems if you don't dance in the hip-hop or jazz styles, really don't bother. Those styles are great, but they shouldn't be the main focus, it should be basically even for all. Such as in the season I watched there were a couple of really good country-style auditioners, but the judges wouldn't put them through, even though they praised them more than folks they did call back. Ah well, I'll give it a go again this season, for I love dancing period and wished I could do it half as well as the folks on there.

The World's Oldest Teenager, not RTL, is producing this show, so it should be a bit different. It should be fun to see the difference between game show production firms. (Dick Clark Productions is behind this show; Mr. Clark is best known for Pyramid, but also did his own short-lived Disney quizzer The Challengers in 1990 and the US version of the UK National Lottery's Winning Lines in 2000. RTL, of course, is Feud and Price.) A few of us adult dancers at a dance studio talked about the show before concert and said that one of our former members auditioned.

I've been enjoying the auditions!!! More to come tonight. I'll miss some of it due to the Laker game. I can't believe that "Sex" tried out again!!!! And the guy that mouthed off at Mary had my blood boiling. The mom of 4 should have stayed home, although she was entertaining like they said. It amazes me that the folk in Utah who are younger than me at 39 look extremely OLD!!!

I was only able to watched the first hour tonight since Lost was on. A lot of great dancers and I'm glad Nigel told the Looney guy what needed to be said - that he's the reason why fathers will not allow their sons to dance. I'm really enjoying also on how they're using previous contestants in the show, like Travis and Benjie choreographing last year. I'd like to see him judge one of these days. And I know I mentioned about judges not doing a Paula Abdul but I'd like to see Paula be judging or choreographing sometime. I think it'll be intersting.

I'm really enjoying the auditions. I love this show so much! I think it's so amazing when you see people with no training in other styles (like the breakers) end up doing really well. There have been some amazing people so far. I thought it was crazy with the twins, where the first one was cut, and then his brother managed to get him back on stage to perform with him, and then they ended up putting them both through to Vegas. I also loved the Italian girl - actually I loved her grandmother who was giving breakfast to the random people in line. Cute! I can't wait for the competition to start.

I just hope we get to Vegas soon. I'm getting bored and frustrated with all the bad auditions! --Kat

I was reading an interview with Mary and supposedly she auditioned for DWTS but did not get the job and she ended up with with this show. She also mentioned that the show allows dancers (mainly street dancers) to be able to be in a dance studio and get proper training since most people will not be able to afford to be in a dance studio. I do really enjoy most of the street dancers and on how they transform after some training...like Dominic last year and it's funny how he still hangs around during the audition.

I totally agree. While I like DWTS, SYTYCD is my favorite. Travis was great and Benji was a joy. Wierd how they both had siblings on last year's show. I concur with lexie on the twins. That was a trip!!! There are a lot of fascinating stories. I'm anxious to see how it will turn out.

I have never really watched this show but I think I would like it but I have such a hard time listening to the judge in the middle. Her voice and annoying laugh get on my nerves.

ORIGINAL: cowgurl4christ My dad always asks "Why's that woman so loud?" hehe Because she get 'really' excited She used to annoy me too but I guess after watching the show for years, she just amuses me now. She's got a lot of constructive criticism to say...actually all the judges. I wish AI judges will learn from these people than saying the same things over and over again. Amen!!! I like the top 20 that they have. There's a good mix of hip-hop, contemporary, and Latin in the bunch. It should prove interesting.

I really liked Katee and Joshua's dance last night- the hiphop dance on No Air. I also liked Chelsie and Mark- Mia's choreograph's always out there somewhere but it was really good. Twitch was awesome. There were great dancing last night. I did not care about the disco dance, the tango dance and I don't agree with Mary that they're the couple to beat. I also noticed that they did not draw names this time which I think is better. Since in the past...they would have the height issue with tall girl, short guy or very tall guy and very short girl and it did affect the dancing . The couples were paired pretty much fair.
