I found this awesome web site for pre school http://www.letteroftheweek.com/Preparatory.html

I am going to go to the library to get books from the list and run copies for her to color. She will love it when I get the crayons out. I know she is ready since everything described here that they will do every week is stuff she already loves to do. I am so excited!

I'm glad you're so excited! It is great when we can find materials that we are free to use. I hope your daughter will enjoy coloing the letters and that you will be able to find all the books from the book list. Some libraries will order books for you, so you could look into that if they don't have all the books. Let us know how it goes.

I love that site too. I have been using it for my son. We like it.

The more I read the more l liked this site. Her ideas of boards for the week were awesome. I know Jessica will love the letters. She make the weekly vocabulary word fun using the books she recommends for the kids.

I giggled when I read the title of your post " Starting Monday I am starting Preschool", because you can't start Monday, you've been doing it since birth. Whether we like it or not, those little people watch everything we do and mimic us. So Monday you are just adding to what you already do. That site sounds great, looking forward to checking it out for my little guy.

I got a giggle from the title too, but my comment is, "Aren't you a little old to be starting preschool?" My daughter went to a loving, Christian, inexpensive preschool 17 years ago. They did colors of the week, name recognition, lots of art, lots of stories, visitors telling about community jobs, etc. My favorite was the year they made a "book" of her whole year. They had information papers about her, her art work, and pictures. Of course I still have it. She drew a picture of her family that we got a real laugh over. My husband has a distant Irish heridity which show in his O'last name and his looks. He has dark brown hair with a reddish tone, fair skin with freckles, and green eyes. My daughter had a field day doing freckles on her dad's picture.

OK, I'm getting on this preschool boat too. I don't intend to homeschool, but I do intend to use homeschooling methods and materials to supplement a public education throughout. My older dd is 3, my younger one is an infant...

My question... Am I intending too much for her age? Am I going to burn-out both of us?

I want to do letters / numbers / colours / shapes similarly to the site that's being referenced. I also want to do Bible stories, verse memorization, character traits and worship-related vocabulary. And I want to do music, art, crafts, French, dance, drama, cooking, gardening, money stuff, geometry puzzles, computer stuff, scientific method and vocabulary...

Plus, I also want to study: (1) body parts, functions & growing (2) nature, weather, seasons & time of day (3) our house, yard, destinations and transportation. (Not all at the same time, more like one idea lasting a couple of months)

If this is too much or too advanced, please tell me your opinion of what the best ideas to do-without are.

pbaribeault, All those things are fine if you are teaching them in the context of daily life. If you are sitting her down for school time, to teach her all of that, it is likely that you will extinguish her love of learning.

Make you home a place to learn and grow. Give her dress up clothes, art supplies, a tea set and so forth. You could make a little frame with a curtain for a state and let her have puppet shows, if you have room. There are so many things you can do where she will learn what you have listed, but if you sit her down with a workbook and pencil she will not learn them nearly so well. I suggest you read The Three R's, by Dr. Ruth Beechick.
