Hi,

this morning I got an email form the IRS saying I had to fill out some form for my tax rebate. So I click in and it asks for my social security, my VISA card number, the cvc code, and I am thinking, why does the IRS need my VISA number? It looked so legit. I forwarded it to my tax lady. I didn't fill out the information. I thought the checks were coming just because we filed our 2007 tax returns.

once again, why would the IRS need my VISA number? this is a scam right?

Yes the IRS already has this info.

the checks are being sent out a week or two early so the first people are already get them via direct deposit depending on their bank and the rest of them will be sent out throughout may, if you are eligible.

this is a scam.

also: by clicking on that email, you may have gotten a tracking cookie on your computer. i would run your antivirus and an adware cleaning program.

post a note on the computer forum to get good info if you are not really confident on what to run to get rid of any virus or adware you might have downloaded (unknowlingly) when you opened that email.

The IRS will NEVER email you to ask for your SSI, or credit card info. They respond by snail mail, and do NOT email you. This is a long running internet scam, and I'm glad you didn't fall for it.
