I think I found a new one today. (Or at least it's new to me.) http://www.group.com/live/ I know a lot of people have trouble with those magazine-looking bibles, but is there a consensus that teen bibles work to get teens interested or not? A lot of the ones I have seen just have fancy colorful covers.

My teenage daughter's classmate seems to bounce back and forth between expressing her love of GOD to being involved in some rather "gothic" "emo" art/music/reading. Anyway, this girl was very excited about some "comic book" bible that she received. That was the first i have heard of those types. On that website you linked it also had a big link to "rough edit" a Christian community for teens that share artwork, poetry, photography etc. I will forward that information on to this girl -- imho if it gets the teens to talk about Jesus that's good - we just pray The Holy Spirit will move in their lives by His will.

Yeah, I was hoping to get a little more information about this particular bible, but I can't find any screen shots of what's inside and what makes it different. For that matter, I didn't see any information about translation... Oh, I just found out it's NLT and you can download a .pdf of the inside. And I was kind of digging it, but I do see some words further into the sample that are probably going to rile some parents.

It would depend on what is inside the teen bible. Since most people read at a 6th or 7th grade level a bible written at that level would be very useful. Also if it is written in todays language using words or expressions teens use it could be a tool to get them excited about God insead of being bored by other bibles not written or geared to them. The only requirement I would have is that auch a bible be true to God's word.

ORIGINAL: stellaluna I'm so glad to know that #5 is "increase the peace." This new Live bible does contain all the scripture you could want, but I think it also includes some of those things that people didn't like about the magazines. Give me a break. "increase the peace." What does that mean? What about stealing and coveting, not to mention graven images and the Sabbath. This is a prime example of breaking the real "9th" commandment. For those who use watered down versions that would be the one about baring false witness. Please keep you KJV only agenda in the KJV only thread. This thread is about a particular teen bible, not a general discussion regarding translations. One problem with all of the teen bibles I've seen is that the publishers sorely underestimate the intelligence of those teens. Instead of filling a bible with fancy graphics, they need to give these kids some substance. Most of the teenagers I know are more concerned with how to apply the bible to their daily lives. This bible looks like it should be aimed more at pre-teens that are still attracted by fancy colors and pretty pictures.

We bought an NIV kid's Bible for my daughter, and she really loves it! I don't know about these "magazine" Bibles. I've seen them in the stores and have perused through them. I personally think a kid's Bible or teen Bible is a MUCH more useful Bible than the "magazine" style ones. My daughter didn't care much for the "magazine" Bible, either.

I'm not sure, but didn't the Life Application Study Bible come out with a teen version a few years ago? Even if not, I think this Bible might be a good one for those teens you mentioned. We got one for our daughter, she may not have been a teen yet, it was a kids version of the Thompson Chain Reference Bible, and she really took off with it. Anything she wanted to know about God's word, she could search it out with this Bible. She took it to Sunday School with her, and was so enthused about it, that the other kids got enthused too and were upset with her on the rare Sundays that she would forget to bring it along.

I was responding to the "Teen Commandments" that are designed to look like the "Ten Commandments" but have been watered down to make them more acceptable to some limp wristed pacifist youth leaders. Any such translation of the Scriptures violates the commandment not to bare false witness in my opinion. Maybe we should try something different like teaching our "teenagers" to be adults and help them apply there lives to the Scriptures rather than rather than finding ways to make the Scriptures apply to their chosen life styles. By the way, I believe the translators of the KJV did some of this themselves.
