Hi again y'all,

I've been getting the Berean daily devotional through email for quite a while now. I just cannot seem to make myself read the bible before bedtime, and I can't even see when I first wake up, so this works best for me. Anyway, I've never heard anything but great things about the Berean's. So, now I'm seriously confused.

I received my daily devotional, read it, then looked at the links within the message. Following those links, I see that they are teaching against the Trinity. They say that the Trinity is not only not found in scripture, it's not even implied in scripture. Help!

I did a quick and dirty Google search on the name you included and could not really find anything specific. I did come across THIS - but based on their doctrinal statement, I don't think it's the same organization you're talking about.

Does the material have any website listed?

Also, if they are indeed speaking against the Tri-une revelad nature of God.. then my advice is to stop reading it.

It would be nice if we could judge a book by it's cover.
Calling ourselves a Berean doesn't make us one.

So, we're back to the initial need of studying for ourselves.

I've never heard of them, so really can't comment.

What is the domain name? (Look at the email address, at the part that comes after the @.)

http://www.bereanbiblesociety.org/faq.shtml reiterates what Earthless wrote.

It is a common argument for Oneness people to argue against belief in the Trinity by making the statement that the word Trinity is not in the Bible -- and it isn't. I would check into who backs that particular "Berean" email. Neither is "the rapture" in the Bible, and they definitely believe in that!

Yeah, that prolly would've helped, my apologies. The website is here

I've spent most of my life in Baptist churches with a brief time in a Pentecostal church. I've always heard that the Berean's are to be commended because of the way they study. That if you want to know something, ask a Berean.

I won't be doing any of this asking if this is the kind of thing they teach! I'm totally shocked. This is like telling me that Mother Theresa was a man - what?!

Just what I thought... they are backed by a cult - a remanent of Armstrongism. Herbert W. Armstrong - anti-Trinitarian/Sabbath keeping cult: HERE

They are what remained after the theological split from when Armstrong died and the WCG revamped into the current orthodoxy that publishes 'The Plain Truth Magazine' under the current direction of Pastor Greg Albrecht.

TX - do know that anyone can take any name, label, or title.... that does not mean they automatically are reflective of said name, label, or title. That is why Scripture tells us to judge/test everything in light of what Scripture says and what to that which is true (the Bible).

We are to become so familiar with the truth that when a counterfeit appears on the horizon we will know it as such. We are surrounded by skins of the truth, stuffed with a lie.

Well, I guess that's what just happened to me then. As I said, I've been getting this email for quite some time, at least a year or so. I've never seen any problems with it. Then yesterday - BOOM! - something absolutely crazy was said. Of course I stopped "learning" from them immediately and came here. You're right, anyone can call themselves anything. I could've done some research first, but unless they spelled out their errors then even if I had researched I wouldn't have seen anything.

I pretty much know truth from error - thanks to this website clearing alot of things up for me. And when I run into someone teaching an error, I don't stick around to see how close their teaching is to the truth. Bummer - now I've gotta find a new daily devotional. Suggestions? I know this website has one, but I want it to come to my email rather than me having to come to it. Yeah, I know, lazy. lol

This is a decent one with doctrinally sound pastors/writers:

HERE is another doctrinally sound one.

Apparently The Berean is owned and operated by the Church of the Great God. They are non-Trinitarian. They appear to be somewhere between the Oneness folks and trinitarians.

Peace

That is NOT the same organization as http://www.bereanbiblesociety.org/faq.shtml.

Bingo! That's much more in line with what I've always heard regarding the Bereans. Thanks!

I've been looking that their statement of faith a bit. there is a lot of truth to what they say, but every once in a while they throw in a blatant lie. For example:

quote:

... the keeping of the Ten Commandments is nonetheless required as a condition to receive salvation.

My personal advice is to stay away. I would say that they have crossed the line from being an unorthodox sect of Christianity to being a cult.
