MN just had its first senate debate recently, so I thought I'd start a thread where people can discuss the senate races from their respective states, as I'm sure the races are starting to heat up all over the country (unless you have a well loved incumbent in office).

Who is running in your state?

Who do you like?

What are their chances?

....etc, etc, etc.

NOTE: I'm sick to death of talking about Obama's love of terrorists or Palin's recent lynch mob, so if you want to talk about that take it elsewhere (I don't know about you guys, but I'll be so happy when Nov 4 rolls around as this election is killing me).

Me and my fellow citizens of the nations capital are not seen fit to have voting representation. Yet they they tax us all the same.

Speaking for MN we actually have a really interesting race going. The incumbent is Republican Norm Coleman. The challengers are Al Franken (D) and Dean Barkley (I).

Recent polls have shown Barkley taking upwards of 18%, most likely due to the fact that both Franken and Colemen went 100% negative from the outset of their campaigns and have really been going at each other in ads, which I think is turning people off in a big way. So he seems to be somewhat of a wild card, and from what I've been able to discern it's completely up in the air. Two polls released a few days ago had conflicting results, one with Franken ahead by almost 10 points, another with Coleman ahead by the same margin (naturally both campaigns released press releases touting the poll in which they were winning as the "correct one," the other one being "flawed").

Speaking on a personal level, however, this race is particularly interesting just because it's one of few times when I've ever been completely up in the air about who I want to vote for. I listened to the last debate and from my impressions Barkley came out on top. I researched him and I've liked a great deal of his platform and he seems to lean libertarian (he's my dream candidate: both pro-gun and pro-gay rights, which is such a delightfully whimsical combination! I can't help but conjure the image of a horde of angry Drag Queens, packing both Gucci and 30-ought-6's, surrounding a group of homophobic rednecks ), but I definitely would rather not have more Coleman and I don't want to waste my vote. So I think I'm going to wait until closer to the election and see if Barkley has a chance, before I make my decision, as I'd be perfectly fine voting for Franken.

I hope Al Franken wins... His character will not hold up and he will be exposed for what he is...

I'm pretty sure we don't have a senate race this year in Missouri. I hear that Kit Bond will be retiring at the end of his term though and I'm hopeful Jim Talent runs again for his spot.
