I thought it might be nice to have a place to share all the little things we have to be thankful to God for in our lives.

Today, the seatbelt X usually uses in my car broke. We weren't in an accident when she really would have needed it. It simply wore out.

I thank God that we have the opportunity to fix it without someone being badly hurt when it stopped working.

Kylie

That's great, Magee! What a great idea for a thread! I was just thinking about how God commands us to be patient with one another, so I was starting to feel a little guilty about our pet peeve thread, so this is great.

I will do my thankful list tomorrow. I'm a little too tired right now, though I am thankful for my beautiful, comfy bed.

After 10 years of school (5 for undergrad, 5 for a graduate program that was a ridiculous 120 hours), my husband finally graduated this May. We have been married for 7.5 years and had been waiting for him to graduate before we had kids so that I would be able to stay home. We are expecting a baby in December, but it is August now and my husband hasn't found a job. The school year is about to start and I never, ever, ever in my life would have dreamed that I would be teaching again, but that is how things are working out. All that is a preface to my "Thankfulness" about the situation.

I am thankful...
*that our baby is healthy and growing. I had a miscarriage last December and it was the single most difficult, horrible experience of my life. I am thankful every day that my little boy is kicking, reminding me that he is doing well and continuing to grow. I can't wait to hold him in my arms

*that I have a job. When we had to sign our contracts last spring stating that we intended to return to the school in the fall, I almost didn't sign because I assumed my husband would have a job by now and I would be staying home to take care of the baby. This would be a much scarier situation if neither of us had a job. I have a friend who didn't sign her contract to teach this year and her husband (who graduated with my husband) hasn't found a job yet either.

*that my job pays enough that we can get by until Gabe finds a job.

*that because my job will pay our basic living expenses, Gabe can stay home with the baby if he doesn't have a job by December. I know that there are good daycares out there (I've worked in some), but looking for a day care in Dallas scares me. Besides, I understand they cost ~$1000/month

*I have good health insurance. Since I am still working, my school district pays most of my health insurance, which includes maternity care. If I weren't working, I would either have to do COBRA, or get some other health insurance that might not cover maternity. And being pregnant, I might not even be able to get other health insurance.

*Gabe resigned from his old job when he did. This might not seem like a good thing, but in May, Gabe resigned from his part-time-soon-to-become-full-time-job because of a bad situation between himself and the leadership there. We had originally planned to move to the town where he was working (an hour away) when he graduated and he would come on full time. If the situation hadn't escalated when it did (in April), we might have moved in July, had the blow up in August, and then he would have resigned after we had moved, I had quit my job, etc. If God didn't want us to stay where we were then, He let things fall apart at the perfect time.

*we can stay in our apartment. When our lease expired in July, we thought we would have to move or sign another year's lease. Since we're still hoping Gabe will get a job soon, we didn't want to sign a year's lease, but moving costs would have been ridiculous and we'd probably have to sign at least a 6 month lease on a new place. But after talking to our apartment complex, we found out that because we've lived here for a while, we could go month-to-month on our lease with only a minimal penalty.

I have many, many other things that I am thankful for, but these are all related to this one situation. Because things haven't worked out the way I wanted them to or the way I planned for them to (especially becoming a SAHM), I have to constantly remind myself of how good our situation really is and how God is still taking care of us, even if He isn't following the life-plan that I wrote

Right now, I'm thankful that God has everything figured out even when I don't. I just wish He'd fill me in sometime soon.

The first thing I am thankful for is that Jesus died on the cross for me. Praise Him!

I am also thankful:

*for a loving, wonderful husband and a beautiful, happy daughter.

*for being able to stay at home and raise my children and a husband who wanted me to stay at home even though things may get tough

*Dh has a job in his field...it took a few years but he's in now.

*for God's provisions when we are faithful - when we became pregnant everyone was questioning us and saying we wouldn't be able to make it financially. While it was tough, we are now in a secure situation, and showing those people that you just need faith in God.

I am thankful for our peeling ceiling.

Because of the experience of learning how to fix our bedroom/ensuite ceiling earlier this year, dh is able, today, to be out helping a friend whose marriage really needs a boost right now, to do the exact same job on their house (bathroom) and bless his (friend's) household while his wife is away for the weekend.

They're also resealing and grouting the bath (a new project for dh, but I thank God He has given dh confidence in knowing the right tools for the job through watching other guys while he works on building sites).

I'm thankful for my little boy...thankful that we were able to conceive him and thankful that he is here and doing well. I'm even thankful for the circumstances that are making me grow in strength and faith.

Ok, I didn't make a list, but right now, I am thankful for my kids. All of them. Even the one I have not yet met. I am thankful that because my husband and his former girlfriend chose adoption over abortion 18 years ago, there is a beautiful boy (now a man) out there who is connected to my daughters and they have all accepted eachother freely without any condition.

I'm thankful for my health. Last year I had an emergency open heart surgery after a heart cath that went very wrong. I have recoverd completly from this surgery. On the 31st of July I had have my throid removed. I went into the operating room knowing that there was a 50/50 chance it would be cancer. Four different pathlogy reports have come back with no sign's of cancer. Thank you Lord for your blessings on me.

Here's what I am thankful for today:

I can pay our house payment and other "credit rendering" bills.
All 3 kids are healthy and happy.
My husband has such a positive outlook on our current business situation and that he is so driven to make things better.

This is a good thread for me because we are going through A LOT right now and I just have to remember to be thankful for what we have.

Thanks for the great idea!

I am thankful that God answers prayers. Even when the answer doesn't come in just the way we think it will; or when it comes, it doesn't "look" just like we think it's going to--it all boils down to realizing that God knows what we don't--and He really is in control.

Like JBB said, I too am thankful that I can pay all of my bills, include credit cards in full. I thank the Lord as I write out those checks.

Today I am thankful for my wonderful step-mom, who babysat the kiddos last night so DH and I could go on a much needed date. We couldn't even remember the last date we went on.

I'm also thankful that we have an offer on a building we've been trying to sell. Thank you, Lord!
