Is it unusual or bad to be constantly thinking about God throughout the day? Does God want us to constantly be thinking about Him? Thanks

We are commanded to love God with all our mind. However, God also wants us to be diligent and fufill all of our daily responsibilities (eg: family, job, school)

"And He said to him, "'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND." (Matthew 22:37)

"When the sun rises they withdraw, And lie down in their dens. Man goes forth to his work And to his labor until evening. O LORD, how many are Your works!" (Psalm 104: 22-24)

"Set your mind on things above...." That is the advice of Paul. As long as you are thinking and meditating rather than daydreaming, GO FOR IT. Pray without ceasing, contemplate who God is when you are in the middle of the most mundane tasks you can imagine. That is what they did in the monasteries in the Middle Ages.

True ... God wants us to love and honour Him and to love each other (including our enemies). He wants us to communicate with Him (pray/listen), to thank Him for meeting our needs, and also to ask for His help and guidance when we're unsure and fearful.

That said: I also believe He wants us to enjoy life. This is not an endurance test; and when we get to meet Him He will not check how often we prayed and thought about Him. He will ask us how we lived our lives, how we met our responsibilities and how we helped each other.

So ... there's nothing wrong in thinking about Him throughout the day; but remember also that life is for living. As faithfulservant1 quite rightly put it: fulfill ALL your daily responsibilities.

It's a great thing!

Paul says we are to 'pray continually' - something that requires us to think about God.

In Deut. 11:18-21 God commands the Israelites:

"You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. "You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth.

You can never think about God too much.

So thinking about God makes me an absolutely wonderful and a very blessed person? Didn't the Pharisees and Sadducees think about God? Don't the demons and satan think about God?

What about our daily responsibilities? Many people think this is irrelevant to the OP, but I disagree! Is not God both love and just? Setting your mind on the "things above" is important, but it is "in vain" if you neglect your obligations. (eg: Caring for our parents, loving our wives, nourishing our children, being diligent at work, studying at school, doing the household chores, and setting a good example). Please remember, faith without works is useless.

"You believe that there is one God; you do well: the demons also believe, and tremble.
But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?"
(James 2:19-20)

I don't think it's bad at all to think about him constantly. He is the one who gave us life, and freedom and the roof we have over our heads and the food we eat, it's pretty normal actually.

If you turn you life over to God as, He wants, He expects you to be in constant communication with Him.

It’s a little bit like working for your boss at work…you are dependent upon him for your livelihood and you need to keep constant communications open with him but within the authority he has granted to you, you are expected to complete your job. It is not much different with God, except the stakes are much higher.

Your communication with God is primarily through His written word and Holy Spirit which allows you to understand what the word means. But your prayers grant you a deeper spiritual connection which allows the Spirit to shape your thoughts and the discussion, even though it seems one way, allows your love to grow.

Myself, I’m talking to God almost all the time and I’m listening intently all the time for Him to reply back.

I think of it more like a marriage relationship rather than as an employee. But maybe that's just me...

Wow...I have been on these forums for 2 years and I don't believe I have ever read a reply to my posts or the OP'er that is as harsh as yours.

There are alot of assumptions in your reply. Such as, you are assuming that this person is neglecting their obligations...

I feel very sorry for you that you jump to such conclusions....

Do you have a hugh root of bitterness in your heart?
