As I was driving to work today God brought to my mind a song I have not heard in a long time.

The Measure of a Man by 4-Him

A few lines stood out to me......

quote:

But there's more to what your worth
Than what their human eyes can see

Do you believe this? Do you believe there is more worth in you then what others are seeing? Do you pray the person you marry will see you through God's eyes and not his own?

quote:

Cause I found out the measure of a man
God knows and understands
For He looks inside to the bottom of your heart
And what's in the heart defines
The measure of a man

What does your heart look like? Is it more attractive then what you look like on the outside?

quote:

Well you can doubt your worth
And search for who you are and where you stand

I know so many wonderful Christian men and women, both here and IRL, who doubt their worth and value as a bride/groom. They see themselves through human eyes, comparing themselves to human standards, instead of Godly standards.

I know men, who reflect the heart of God, that walk measuring themselves based on what someone, who is not seeing with God's eyes, has said about them.

I know women, who radiate with joy, who's faces shine and sparkle, yet are blinded to see their own beauty.

It saddens me because when I look at these people, talk to them, or read their post I see such amazing beauty. I see God's glory reflected in them.

I know the feeling, for too long I have allowed standards set by others, to dictate how I saw myself.

The other night I took a good hard look at myself and was stunned to see how beautiful I am. How could I see myself as anything other then beautiful? How can you?

How? How do we see ourselves as beautiful when the world says we are not? How do we see our value in a world that has a different value system?

quote:

But God made you in His image
The more you see the Lord the more you see yourself. The more you get to know Him the more you get to know yourself because you are His image. Look at the world.....look at the Lord.....which image do you want to be?

quote:

For there's more to what you're worth
Thank you could ever comprehend
Do you believe this is true? God says it is.......there is more to us then we can even comprehend just as there is so much more to our Lord then we can comprehend.....but the more we seek Him.....the more we see life through His eyes ....the more we see our value and worth.

quote:

You can spend your life pursuing physical perfection
There is so much more, more than ever meets the eye

I can strive to become more physically beautiful by losing weight, wearing make up, dressing right.....doing everything in my power to make myself more attractive to the world........but there is so much more........so much more to being beautiful and valuable then what the world promotes........so much more then ever meets the eyes....my greatest desire is not to be attractive to the world or those who see me through worldly eyes.....but to be attractive, beautiful, valuable through Godly eyes.....because only through His eyes am I seen clearly.

What do you look like through God's eyes?

....... this is a wonderful topic, Joy.

This is a journey I've been on for a few years...

Daring to believe that I'm beautiful, desirable, even lovely in God's eyes...

Life changes so much when we believe truth....

Now I dare the inmates to believe.... to do their best to try to grasp even a small amount of this truth...

When we through the validation we think we need from other human beings out... and look to God for what we need....

.... everything changes.

My 2 cents....

Great topic Joy!

I have been thinking about this a lot lately…….I have no trouble seeing myself through Gods eyes. His word is clear on how He views His children. But, you know, when we ask our Mom or Dad, “How do I look? And they just gush and say,” Oh you look so beautiful”, we believe it, but we think, but you’re my Mom/Dad. We don’t put as much confidence in what our parent/God says, I think. We expect that from them.

Another thing I have been thinking about is this: I feel like I am beautiful because my husband told me for twenty years that I was beautiful. Am I truly beautiful (on the outside), or am I still riding on his love. I know that I am still somewhat attractive because of the reaction I get from men, but I think that my view of myself may be slightly skewed, because I was married for so long. There is nothing I can do about the outside. I am 42 and I will continue to age, but the inside is something I am constantly trying to beautify, there is a lot I can do about the inside, so that is what I will focus on.

Really Cool words to that song BTW. I think I will print it up and put it on my mirror.

Great topic Joy!
Thanks Nadine.

I had the most enjoyable jog earlier thinking about the topic of this thread.

As I was walking the 1/2 mile to start my jog I began to feel the muscles in my legs. Each step I could feel my thighs and calf. I love the feel of my muscles moving.

As I jogged my 2 mile loop around the lakes I marveled at how much I have improved and how strong my legs felt.

Walking the 1/2 mile back I thanked God for how much my attitude about myself has changed. How I am beginning to see myself as beautiful........

My measuring stick has changed.

A person who sees me through God's eyes will see my beauty no matter what I look like on the outside.
A person who sees me through humans eyes never will see my beauty, no matter how physically beautiful I am, for human eyes can never see what makes me truly beautiful.

Changing from my shorts to my skirt I noticed my legs. WOW they are sure looking good. I can see that line.....you know the one which starts just above your ankle and goes all the way up dividing your front muscles from your back........It is becoming more pronounced......and my calves.....a very defined cut.

When did my legs change? When did they become so attractive?

I looked up to see a huge smile on my face and shinning big bright eyes staring back at me.

I realized what I was seeing had less to do with the physical change to my body and much more to do with the transformation God is doing in me.

quote:

I think that my view of myself may be slightly skewed,
My view of myself was skewed because I saw myself through the human eyes of a man.......now I am beginning to see myself through God's eyes........what a difference

Great song! That group has some wonderful music ... specifically the lyrics.

What comes to mind are these verses

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:23-25

When we look in the mirror, do we see God's reflection?

When we step away from the mirror and the image fades ... does His reflection in us fade as well?

When we read Scripture, do we see God reflected in our hearts?

When we step away from the Book, into our daily lives, does He fade away from us as well?

Or does He stay with us always?

Are we reflecting Him in our thoughts and actions throughout all we do?

Most of the time I feel very beautiful, and then there are times I feel ugly. When I reflect upon those times, do you know what the difference is? It always comes down to how closely I'm walking with my Lord. When life becomes so busy and I don't make the time to be in the Word, to keep Him my number one priority, to have God radiate from my heart ... those are the times I look in the mirror and think "wow I look horrible today" ... and it's because I hadn't been rekindling the fire.

Do you believe there is more worth in you then what others are seeing?

There are some who see it, and others who don't. When we are in the light of His fire, it shows. When we walk into the shadows, it cannot be seen.

Do you pray the person you marry will see you through God's eyes and not his own?

Yes. And I will have it no other way. I firmly believe it is God's will that it is this way, and my praying for His will ... well, we all know what He has promised us. And He does not lie.

Great questions to reflect on Sam and very appropriate verse........thank you for sharing and giving me food for thought.............

This is true for me as well.........When I am seeing myself through the eyes of a man all I see is why I don't make the cut........yet when I stop trying to meet his standards and turn my eyes back on the Lord I am reminded I already made the cut.

I agree with all that you are saying here............. I would like to add though that though I see myself through Gods eyes and have no problem whatsoever seeing the beauty in my spiritual reflection, considering it is not I but Christ living within me, I also see no contradiction in appreciating anothers appreciation for my outward beauty. They are not mutually exclusive. JMHO

~Blessings~

in the area of beauty, God created all ladies naturally beautiful. So instead of dwelling on our imperfections that we cannot change, we can praise God for them! and instead of dwelling on our imperfections that we can change, we can praise God for how He is going to change those too!

what is needed is a massive heart change. Beauty is not necessarily in the appearance (although that has something to do with it), but it is in the attitude that I am beautiful because God made me that way! and the right guy will agree with that! there is no need to change oneself unnecessarily when God's already done a great job!

I agree they go hand in hand.........when I see myself through the eyes of man I see my flaws. When I see myself through God's eyes I see my beauty.........And something really cool happens........the more we see our beauty in the eyes of the Lord the more beautiful we become on the outside as well.

I guess what I am trying to say is simply if we try to become beautiful from the outside in a person seeing us through God's eyes will never see our beauty, but when we allow God to transform us from the inside out we will become beautiful even through the worlds eyes.
