I've been like this with my mother. I don't think she respects me and am very reluctent to share daily life with her. Is this bad? We're both believers and to me this is sad.

Sad, yes, but not bad.

You are your own person, and sharing with people who treat your confidences poorly is not a mandatory part of being a good Christian.

I agree. Some people, even relatives, will not just listen to you. If you need a listening ear, and that is not what she is, yes do be careful what you share with her.

Hey Stamp,

I'm sorry to hear that. I do think that it takes respect, trust, and love to have good communication with someone. Sometimes it is difficult to share with those who are supposed to be closest to you when they do not show love and support. In those cases, I've often felt very hurt by it. I'm wondering how this has affected you and if you've been able to share with others in your life/family?

How are things between you and your father? Do you feel you have someone (even if simply praying to God) to share your life details with? (Btw, what age range are you?)....Would you like to talk a bit more about this by giving more details?

If you are reluctant you must have your reasons. The only reason my mother knows about my daily life is the fact that I am still living at home

I agree.

I don't tell my family much of what means something to me. They know what I choose to tell them (ie what I am comfortable with telling them), but that's it.

Why? Because I'd never hear the end of it if I let them know all. My life is simpler this way. I need that.

Even if you still lived at home, there is a need to be respected as an adult, and to respect your mother's need for privacy.

I've had trouble communicating with my mom. We are both polar opposite so I can sympathize with that. When I was a kid, it was even more difficult. Kids need validation and if they could not get it from at least 1 parent esp. the mom, then too bad.

Do you have someone you get along with: A nice lady in your church, a female co-worker you feel comfy with or any other girlfriend you respect?

You would be amazed at how much love you will find outside your family of origin than inside your family. This has been my case anyway which I hope it will be yours as well.

Blessings!

Cloak, that was a sweet post. Yes, I do have a few friends I feel safe with. Validation is so important and I'm trying to make sure I do this with my children.
