What traditional holiday would you give up celebrating if it weren't for your kids?
(I'm thinking Christmas/Kwanzaa etc.)

hmmmmmm.....good question.

The only two I can think of that we gear towards our kids is Christmas and Easter...though I can't say for sure that we celebrate those FOR our kids or if we would give them up of we didn't have kids.

I may have to think more on this one while cleaning today and get back to this thread later...definitely something to ask hubby when he comes in for lunch.

We'd give up Halloween if we didn't have kids.

From the standpoint of someone who just had a baby and just coming up on celebrating with a child....

I was thinking...what are we going to do different this year. And I dont think we will celebrate different holidays, but more so in HOW we celebrate them.

For example...Easter. We celebrate Easter by going to church, dinner with family, etc. With kids it will be a little more involved...Easter Story, egg hunts, new Easter clothes, etc.
Christmas will be similar...yes we do gifts, decorate, etc. But with just the two of us its a little more low key.
Halloween...yeah thats one we'll have to do now. Though we did it slightly before since we helped with the community carnival for the local kids.

good point (we don't do halloween even with kids so I didn't think of it).....maybe we would drop Purim? (we do that instead of halloween)

I only have a toddler at the moment, but I agree with Erin. We would still give out candy at Halloween, but as he gets older we'll be doing the Trick or Treating thing. Christmas and Easter would a bigger deal, with more activities - and a whole lot more fun if you ask me!

Though I dont technically consider Halloween a "holiday" more of just a "thing" to do. Not sure if that makes sense. I just feel weird calling it a "holiday".
