We all have our preferences, but when driving in the car, what format do you tend to listen to? Naturally, some people may not have all these options available to them in their area of residence, but what WOULD you listen to if you could? (CDs and MP3 players are excluded from this poll. Its strictly a radio thing.)

sports talk. the main problem with music on radio is that they play unless is a rewuest time, what record companies pay for them to play. which sadly hardly ever is my fave's. so I listen to my faves on cd or listen to talk or sports

I could not help but respond to the post that I copied and pasted below. Radio stations don't get paid to play music. In fact, radio stations pay for the CDs and pay SESAC, BMI, and ASCAP for the rights to play music on the air. Many stations say their second largest expense, second only to payroll, is music rights. The music belongs to the artists and musicians and they are entitled to this money, but please understand that record companies pay radio stations nothing. quote:

If a record label pays a station to play their music, that is declared "payola" and is a violation of federal law. We haven't had news/talk radio in five years in this market since the new station owners took away news, talk, weather, and sports in favour of rock music from dead dopers or r&b. It irritates me when I can't get Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, but I can hear some of the most talentless "artists" on the air.

I voted other because I listen to a bit of Christian, country, oldies, and talk. I switch stations fairly frequently.

I mainly listen to a local sports talk show all day while at work or travelling in my car; however, I sometimes listen to a local contemporary Christian station when I am travelling with my family. The problem with our local station is they overplay things. I like Casting Crowns and all, but I don't need to hear their same songs over and over again throughout the day. On this note, has anyone ever been selected to take part in an Arbitron survey to find out what stations you listen to? I finally got selected but can't participate this year. They randomly selected my phone number. The problem is, it was my old home phone number that I haven't had any 3 years. I emailed them after registering to let them know that I have a new home phone number that we just got a month or so ago. They replied that since my new number does not match the one they had on file, I cannot participate. I used to work for 6 local stations in my area doing payroll and A/R. I talked to some of our DJs a lot. One of them fussed about our higher-ups listening to outside consultants too much on deciding what to play. They could still take some requests, but not many. If something wasn't on a list submitted by these consultants, they couldn't play it.

In the mornings, I listen to the local news station, to get the news of the day, and traffic (I commute 35 miles each way, so getting a 'heads up' of problems so I can detour them is helpful).... In the afternoon? Sometimes "talk" (Mark Levin is on while Iam driving home)....if Iam not in the mood to listen to Mark, I "flip" channels between our JACK FM-formatted station (my favorite)....oldies....classic rock.....etc...etc....and, out of the 6 or so of those on my "presets" can usually find something I like. ON weekends, it's usually "oldies"....which has been getting depressing lately....because as time has gone on, the "oldies" they have been starting to play some tunes that I can remember being released when they were "new".....and, i prefer older oldies, such as 60s "motown"....and other 60s R&B....

I flip around and stop at whatever station has a good song on or is talking about something I'm interested in.
