ἅγιος hagios
From ἅγος hagos (an awful thing) compare G53, [H2282]; sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated): - (most) holy (one, thing), saint. (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries)

Interestingly enough a large number(168) of the 231 it is used in the KJV it refers to the Holy part of the Holy Spirit, the other 63 times it is translated saints.

But as nearly as I can make out from the context in every case it simply means believers.

Tim

In the Hebrew dictionary of the Strong’s concordance there is 4 different words for saint or saints, 6918,2623,6944,6922. In the Greek there is only one, 40 .

The scriptures that show who is a saint or who are the saints is

psalms 148:14 He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.

Ephesians 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12. That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

19.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Ephesians 2:11 shows that the Ephesians where at one time gentiles and 2:12 shows at that time when they were gentiles they were aliens from the citizenship of the Nation of Yisra’el(Israel) and the covenants of promise but 13 show why they were excepted into the Nation. But 19 shows since they are excepted into this Nation they are fellow citizens with the saints. So in other words the Saints are the Nation of Yisra’el.

Deuteronomy 33:2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

3.Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

Tim, the Holy Scripture shares your simple definition and position. Believers have received the divine nature of God in Christ Jesus and are now "sent" to share the light and love of God to the world. All believers are on holy mission here on earth in Christ Jesus.

More correctly I share the scripture's definition. I got the definition from the scriptures, not the other way around.
