In the mid 80s, The Nelons usually started the song with a comedy routine featuring Jeff Stice, and the other guys in the band. During the line "coming after me" the harmony parts repeated the words.... and the band would jump up and gather around a mic and (in a very out of tune way) add an echo of "coming after me...." It was kinda hokey, but hey, it worked for them... I'm sure that others could tell you about more groups that have recorded it, but I'm guessing you remember Mama Cooke's version.
