A person coming into the Community proclaiming their habit of self-mutilation raises a huge can of worms regarding accountability. As the Administrator I would feel it was my duty to personally track down that individual and identify their location. Upon making that identification I would then either contact a parent/guardian or their local law enforcement and file a report about the allegation. Most users making these claims would not welcome this level of invasion of their privacy. Additionally, if something were to happen to this user and we did not do anything to stop it then someone may attempt to hold us liable. Therefore, rather than allowing the Community to attempt to offer counseling (most of us would agree we are not qualified to offer this sort of service) we instead direct them to seek either local help or other online counseling services. The Community can not be the replacement for qualified help in these situations, neither should we allow these individuals to think that the help they get in the Community is all that is necessary for their given situation.
