Just curious how many of you have had this procedure done? My husband has had fairly bad pain in his abdominal area for months now with lots of IBS like symptoms. In fact, they diagnosed him with IBS. But then within just the last two months the pain began to be more focused in the upper (right I think?) quadrant of the abdomen and he became worried since his mom just passed away from liver cancer.

Anyways, he had more tests done and they found a polyp so the doctor wants to remove his gallbladder. I've read about having to take bile salts and all kinds of stuff after the gallbladder is removed...has this held true for any of you? I've also read that digestion is difficult afterward and the diet has to be high protein and carbs and low fat. But then I read some conflicting info.

Anyways, just looking for experiences from ya'll. Thanks!

I had mine out about 5 years ago and have not had any problems since. I can eat anything I could eat before I started getting the gallbladder attacks. The one difficulty, is making sure the gallbladder is really a problem. They are often removed unnecessarily.

I had mine removed almost 3 years ago- laparoscopy. I was fortunate that I did not have any pains. I've seen my Mom and my sister with their pains and having an emergency surgery. Like Tara P, I did not have any problems with any food after the surgery. It was a one night stay for me and the healing was not bad. Just did a lot of walking (no stairs though) and no lifting.
