Look through the Sunday paper for rebates and sales. Also, there are some sites on the Internet that alert people as to when companies are clearancing things out. I got a new Toshiba laptop this year for $450.

Basic laptops are cheap now. Dell always has a sale as well and they have an outlet too.

I saw one on sale for $329 in an ad today at either Best Buy or Circuit City I think.

You can buy a new laptop for under $500 (I got mine from Best Buy 2 years ago and it has served me well!)

Otherwise you might check out craigslist for a used one...
