you're welcome

Here's a google earth image that I believe is from yesterday:

as you can see, here in Sacramento we're not getting the worst of it! I'd hate to be up where the smoke is thickest...

I feel sorry for the poor asthmatics in the area, and the helpless animals.

Rick was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary and his wife was
really angry. She told him, "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift
in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less than six seconds, AND IT
BETTER BE THERE!!"

The next morning Rick got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up she looked out the window, and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. She put on her robe, ran out
to the driveway and brought the box into the house. She opened it and
found a brand new bathroom scale.

Rick has been missing since Friday. Please pray for him.

Hiya Kimberly! Glad you had a good time with PC and Matt!

I agreed to go to a wedding this summer where I won't know anyone, not even the bride and groom. I'm going to have to force myself to go, I think.

A friend asked me to go to a 'joining ceremony' of her supervisor to her same sex partner. Then she said it was going to be performed by a wiccan priestess. I just looked at her and she said, " I didnt think so"
Come to think of it, it might have been interesting, a spirit filled, tongue talking charismatic, going to a bunch of witches.....

Hey, if you prayed, maybe they would have even asked you to leave lest their demons were scared away instead.

Thanks for the maps Kimmy, I am so bad with geography (and the names of cities) I never can remember if yall are in danger or not (I know even if your not in danger of flames, your still getting the smoke). I love the smell of camp fires and fireplaces but my sinuses and allergies would be murder right now!

Another 'God is great, God is good' post.
I had asked for prayer at church new years eve about getting back in school. Well its mid year and I was not back in school yet. Not only that I got canned (better word than 'fired'.... esp. in this thread!). Well I started trying to get back in school about 2 months ago, and its been a comical, everything that could go wrong has, wrong paperwork, not enough paperwork, needed addendum, transcripts getting lost in mail, transcripts needing to be paid for but no one telling me that until I called to find out why they had not been mailed. Anyway, classes started Wednesdays and I had to go Tuesday to get my last transcript. I didn't get enrolled at the beginning of the quarter. When they finally got the transcript they told me to callback on Wednesday afternoon, then when I did they told me I needed to take the math placement test on Thursday (day 2 of classes). Showed up Tuesday took the test and had to wait for everyone else to finish the tests so they could take my folder back to admissions. During this wait it didn't start raining, it POURED!!! I am not a girly man whos afraid of getting wet, but when you can't even see across the drive and you know your car is 'somewhere' out 'there' ... I decided to wait.
While I was waiting, I remember sitting there thinking, 'God why am I here, unemployment is less than my mortgage and car note, and I really can't afford to add college tuition to the mix, I really need to just leave (hence God giving us all California's rain in about 2 minutes). they finally let me register and the lady who registered me asked me why I was taking the associates degree program not the diploma program (because I want to transfer back to my old college to finish my degree which this school doesn't offer, but the new school is 68 miles one way closer to the house). She said I could take the diploma program, and would get the Hope Grant (money funded from the state lottery) and Pell Grant. She even filled the form out for me to make the change, all I had to do was sign it and take it to financial aide. Had to go to fin. aide line, who sent me to admissions line, who sent me back to fin. aide line, she typed in some stuff and said, "Ok everythings paid, your good to go."
"I don't need to pay anything??"
"nope everythings paid"
"your sure..."
She gets a funny look, "yeeeees"
"ok... ummm if your sure.... thanks" and I turn to leave quickly
"oh yeah, you have a $100 book voucher on Monday as well. Just go pay your technology fee and parking decal and your all registered"
go to the Cashier to pay the tech fee still stunned speechless (I know reading this post you can't believe I was speechless)
Tell the cashier need my parking pass and tech fee she said its $35 ... "oh wait you've got hope grant and pell.... its all paid... you don't owe anything."
I walked out a full time college student with out ANY OUT OF POCKET FEES!!!!

Too cold where you are, too smokey where Kimmy is, too Yankee where Bill is ;-) ... think I'll stay here.

Hey Kimberly, in the map at the top of this page are the blue and yellow dots UFOs? Cuz that would explain soooooooo much about California if 'they' have returned.
Seriously, You guys are in my prayers... stay safe... don't feel like you need to get up close pics for the crosswalk Gazette or was it the 'daily Crosswalker' we used to have I can't remember

Thanks Karlie, your post kinda slipped up and I missed it.
Its just God proving -- once again-- hes God and I am not.
And hes apparently going to keep messing with me until I learn that.

that's awesome news, Ryan! God is good :)

Those dots on the map are from the Google Earth software...you can either hover your mouse over them or click on them, and they show information about that area.

Very sad news today that Tony Snow died :( I really liked him! He was a very good man, and also a believer from all I could tell.

Here's a fantastic column he wrote for Christianity Today in 07 titled "Cancer's Unexpected Blessings" that's worth printing and reading often.

From that column:

quote:

Blessings arrive in unexpected packages—in my case, cancer.

Those of us with potentially fatal diseases—and there are millions in America today—find ourselves in the odd position of coping with our mortality while trying to fathom God's will.

quote:

I don't know why I have cancer, and I don't much care. It is what it is—a plain and indisputable fact. Yet even while staring into a mirror darkly, great and stunning truths begin to take shape. Our maladies define a central feature of our existence: We are fallen. We are imperfect. Our bodies give out.

But despite this—because of it—God offers the possibility of salvation and grace. We don't know how the narrative of our lives will end, but we get to choose how to use the interval between now and the moment we meet our Creator face-to-face.

quote:

'You Have Been Called'

Picture yourself in a hospital bed. The fog of anesthesia has begun to wear away. A doctor stands at your feet; a loved one holds your hand at the side. "It's cancer," the healer announces.

The natural reaction is to turn to God and ask him to serve as a cosmic Santa. "Dear God, make it all go away. Make everything simpler." But another voice whispers: "You have been called." Your quandary has drawn you closer to God, closer to those you love, closer to the issues that matter—and has dragged into insignificance the banal concerns that occupy our "normal time."

The whole column is amazing...please read it.

Kimberly - what an awesome article!!!

These are my favorite quotes from it:

quote:

The first is that we shouldn't spend too much time trying to answer the why questions: Why me? Why must people suffer? Why can't someone else get sick? We can't answer such things, and the questions themselves often are designed more to express our anguish than to solicit an answer.

quote:

We want lives of simple, predictable ease—smooth, even trails as far as the eye can see—but God likes to go off-road. He provokes us with twists and turns. He places us in predicaments that seem to defy our endurance and comprehension—and yet don't. By his love and grace, we persevere. The challenges that make our hearts leap and stomachs churn invariably strengthen our faith and grant measures of wisdom and joy we would not experience otherwise.

quote:

Through such trials, God bids us to choose: Do we believe, or do we not? Will we be bold enough to love, daring enough to serve, humble enough to submit, and strong enough to acknowledge our limitations? Can we surrender our concern in things that don't matter so that we might devote our remaining days to things that do?

Ryan... How totally awesome! Praying for your success at school!!

Kimberly, thank you for the link to that totally beautiful article by Tony Snow. I have sent it on to several people and intend to send to a few more.

Also on the fires and the smoke. That smoke has to be keeping the hospitals busy. Good grief, that must be awful for the elderly and other people with respiratory issues. Wow.

I did quite a bit of reading of blogs, comments and news articles yesterday about Tony Snow, and have come to the conclusion that he was a pretty amazing man of GOOD as well as godly character.

I don't want to overload with links and articles, so I'll leave it at just one more...his commencement address at the Catholic University of America

I've begun the process of signing on with another temp agency today, and will be signing on with another on Wednesday. I've also uploaded my resume to Monster.com and have applied for a secretarial position with a federal agency's local office, so we'll see what happens.

Prayers for employment (temporary or permanent) are greatly appreciated :)

On to another subject...some people are just plain stupid...it's sad to see what a mind that's turned from God actually turns to....Gay man sues publishers over Bible verses

quote:

A gay man is suing two heavyweight Christian publishers, claiming their versions of the Bible that refer to homosexuality as a sin violate his constitutional rights and have caused him emotional pain and mental instability.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't call him stupid, but I can't think of anything nicer to say about what he's doing. So maybe he's not stupid, but he sure is blinded to the truth and has descended into total ridiculousness.
