Today was my last Monday of going to work at 9 AM! Hallelujah! I will not miss being there that early. I will also not miss working with the cross-dressing guy. I can hardly believe some of the older women sit and have conversations with him about cosmetics and hair dying like it was a normal conversation you would have with any "man."

I went and turned in my computer medical office final. The instructor wanted to know how I liked it and if the project reinforced all the concepts and how long it took me. It was OK. It would probably not be OK if one did not find office work enjoyable.

We had pizza for dinner since I was famished and did not have to want to wait for something to get cooked. I stopped and got one of the $5 hot-n-ready pizzas from Little Caesar's.

Matt has this game borrowing service (like Netflix) and he got us The Chronicles of Narnia game to play. It is alright. It has been a while since I have played anything besides Mario Party or classic Sega games.

Today is the first day in a while I have almost had a headache. I am not sure that I consumed enough caffeine today. I had a coupon for a $1 iced latte from Sonic, so I got one of those. I do not think it is worth more than $1 I paid for it - even McDonald's makes better iced coffee. I also did not have much water today.

On my two days off I plan to finish my accounting class. Hopefully I can get everything besides the test finished Tuesday then do the test on Wednesday.

I've lived in the bay area too long. I guess I don't see anything wrong with it. Not that I condone the cross-dressing, but if a man has tips for hair care or makeup that would help me, why not listen? There are women I know who could stand to take some cosmetic tips from anyone ... even a man who doesn't wear any makeup at all.

Yah, but the people he was talking to all look fine. One of them even gives facials as her other part-time job.

He goes by James. I wonder if when he is out he has a girl name too? Since people can only hear us and not see us I am guessing that is why he goes by James at work at least.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Want to know the probably worst thing about my job? The prank callers. I have learned sexual things I never cared to know about from prank callers. I am not kidding either.
It's not the same thing, but I can kinda relate to that.
I check one of my client's websites everyday for inquiries that were submitted to the site. Over the years, we (she, her webmaster and I) have tried to cut down on the disgusting prank emails and porn-directed emails that the site gets. But apparently these type of people will not be deterred. Some of the subjects lines are obvious in their what they're trying to do and those I just delete without even opening them. But some of them are not so easily caught. Some of them even use "seemingly valid" wedding-type email subject lines.
Argh! Why does Princess have such a sock fetish?
Tonight I was wearing my favorite fuzzy red socks with a snowflake sewed on each side. My feet were getting hot, so I took them off and laid them on the couch next to me. When I got up to use the bathroom Princess took them. When I got back from the bathroom I did not realize they were gone. I heard Princess tearing something cloth-like, but didn't think anything of it at first. Then I decided to get up and see what it was, and she ripped a big hole in one of the socks trying to get off the snowflake. I doubt they will sell the exact same socks next year.
Well, a few minutes ago Princess threw up some foam and some grass. Poor dog. I emailed the vet she went to before and asked how much stomach xrays are. Matt said I can take her in for a checkup/xrays now if it is $100 or less, more than that and we will talk about it (not because we don't want to help her, but because we have a very expensive vacation coming up very soon). I wish her tummy would get better without intervention, but it doesn't look like that will be the case. I have not been feeding her any people food and only feed her 1 or 2 mini dog biscuits a day, so it is not like I am inducing potential tummy pain.
Question:
* If you are making a special trip to a wedding 2700 miles away, and have to pay $150 for a tux rental, are you still expected to get the bride and groom a gift?
* If you are going to a semi-local wedding and have to pay $150 for a tux rental, are you still expected to get the bride and groom a gift?
Both Matt and I have "gift giving" on the bottom of our love language lists, so neither of us are good at this thing. Most everyone in our wedding paid for their tux/dresses, and most of them got us gifts as well.
Yes. A gift is important. BUT you can wait to give the gift. You con't HAVE to give it the day of the wedding. I'm sorry Princess is giving you such difficulties.
This is one of those instances where you're going to get different opinions, Catherine.
That's a lot of expense right there. I consider everything I've quoted to be the gift.
I consider that also to be a gift; $150 is a lot of money.
I would encourage you to know your budget priorities and to stick to them. Do not ever feel obligated to give someone a gift if it isn't within your budget or means to do so.
I don't. If something does not fall within my budget priority, I do not at all feel bad about not giving a gift. For me, a gift is something that is freely given; not something that is expected.
You can give them a card and perhaps write a note about what their friendship means.
You know . . . when I got married the first time, it was a formal wedding. Our attendants didn't pay for their clothing; my father did. I have since come to realize that that's not the normal mode of operation.
I have been attendants in formal weddings when money for me was tight, and I was required to pay for my own clothing. I did and considered that my gift to them. I don't think people should be able to have it both ways (pay for your own clothing AND buy a gift for us).
Catherine --- I echo Shar-Mar. Don't give more than what you can budget. However, if you feel like you want to give a gift of some sort (other than your smiling faces), etiquette dictates that you have a year to do so.
I would get a card at minimum.
ETA: I don't remember if we got you anything. Suddenly I'm feeling sheepish about that.
ETA x2: The only attendent who got anything for us at my first wedding was my sister. Nobody else did.
You did get us some things. :)
Thanks for thr answers, everyone.
A couple weeks ago when Matt had the bachelor party for one of his soon-to-be-wed friends, he said, "Am I supposed to bring a gift?" I said, "Matt, did anyone bring you anything at your bachelor party?" "I don't think so." "Then I don't think you need to worry about it either. This isn't a bachelor shower."
But as a wedding present for that guy Matt went in with one of his other friends and bought... a video game
Catherine, you Posted earlier about the cross-dresser at your job. There's no one at my office that does it, but a local lawyer goes out to a local Wal-Mart every Sunday afternoon in drag - sometimes purchasing "feminine napkins." He even goes so far as to dress according to the season (St. Patrick's Day, July 4th, etc.); in fact, he went to the shopping mall at Christmas in a Mrs. Santa mini-dress, hat, and knee-high boots! But a local judge put "Patty" in his place when, after being caught drumming his long, painted fingernails on a desk while waiting for something, he said "Patty" would be found in contempt of court if he did it again. Way to go, judge!!!
That is an interesting story, Duane.
Oh joy... Matt got a speeding ticket. $110. At least he cannot yell at me for mine now since he has one too. I asked him why he was speeding and he said, "What do you think?" and I said, "I don't know," so then he hung up the phone.
Sorry about the speeding ticket...at such a bad time too.
Hope Princess can get over the stomach thing!
Hmmm, what do you think James would recommend for a good foundation make up?
j/k!
