I'm with you, Sharon. I'm too cheap. LOL Plus, I'm not a person who likes hot weather, crowds, or amusement parks...especially if any of those also involve my kids. I think we'll stick to our camping vacations, climbing up waterfalls, fishing, swimming, relaxing...the further from civilization the better. And definitely not in Florida.

Catherine, I'm enjoying reading about your trip. quote:
ORIGINAL: awed Catherine, I'm with you on the humidity too. If I ever had a desire to go to Florida it would be in January. Yep, as Brandy said, there's humidity in Florida year-round. The thing about humidity down there in the winter months is that it makes everything bitter, bone-chilling cold. I can tolerate sub-zero temperatures in Wyoming (which has extremely low year-round humidity) much better than 30 and 40 above in Florida. I never knew this till I moved to Jackson and was then able to compare how different things were in that regard.

The summer humidity makes one appreciate the bone chilling cold winter months.

I HATE HUMIDITY!!!! I've been in FL twice, both in the summertime. Both times I was just not happy with the humidity. I've dealt with MI humidity too. It's not fun either. Or NY humidity. But I think FL is the worst I've experienced. It's NO bueno!!!! Happy Disneyworlding Catherine!!! When is the wedding?

I was in Florida in July/August, 7 or 8 months pregnant. It was not fun. I'm with Brandy about the cold and the snow. It's much better than humid heat (or any heat for that matter). But I'm glad you're having a good time, Catherine! That's great!

Catherine, You should try living in WV. We're one of the most humid states in the country, I think. I mean, I've been to NC, SC, GA and FL in the summertime, and their humdidity doesn't feel nearly as bad to me as good ol' West Virginny. If you just walk outside on those days, you fgeel like you're turning into a blod of protoplasm! During the summer of 1982, we had temperatures in the 90's with matching humidity numbers for most of July and August. In fact, one morning, the paving project I was on got rained out by a really heavy downpour; by 11:30, it was sunshine, temps in the low 90's, . . . and I was on the gold course! That year was a strange one for WV, weather-wise. From July 1st through the end of the year, we kept setting daily temperature records; in fact, most of the record temps for Dec. were set in '82. I was oustide working in my short sleeves on Dec. 17 - it was 75 degrees! But like Shar-Mar said, the humidity we have makes the cold temperatures absolutely bone-chilling. Duane

Monday: Monday we spent the day at Animal Kingdom. Funny how Sunday we did not plan to come back to the hotel but did, and Monday we planned to come back to the hotel but did not. Animal Kingdom is the largest park by acres, but the park with the fewest number of rides. If not for having two major shows, it would be a really boring park. We started our day by going on Animal Kingdom’s newest ride, Expedition Everest, which is a roller coaster. It is quite the thrill ride. Part of the ride goes backwards, which I was not expecting. Then we went over to Dinoland, U.S.A. We rode one ride that is a mini roller coaster with cars that spin around. It was a really fun ride! Then we went on this in-the-dark Jeep ride where we were supposed to have traveled back in time to find this one specific dinosaur. It was not really that great. Dinoland also has a ride that is the triceratops version of Dumbo, but we skipped that one. Then we saw the 3D show “It's Tough to be a Bug!” which features characters from the movie “Bug’s Life.” The show really gets in your face. Then we had an early lunch/late breakfast at a BBQ quick service place. We both ordered pork sandwiches. Unfortunately though my sandwich was a lot greasier than Matt’s so it was not very good. :( It continually amazes me how tame the ducks at the parks are… they are a lot like dogs. They especially like humans with food. One duck had its beak about an inch from my knee. I said to it, “Hi Princess! Sit.” When I said “sit” I pointed my finger at the ground and it actually lowered its hind region and looked more up at me. Both of us laugh and Matt said, “You get from credit for that one!” After lunch we went and saw “Finding Nemo – The Musical.” It was really great. I liked watching the people moving the puppets because they seemed happy and like they were having a good time. After Nemo we headed over to the Asia land. We walked through Maharajah Jungle Trek, which had different exotic animals to look at. In one of the areas was a tiger that kept pacing back and forth in front of one of the windows. Then we went on Kali River Rapids. Normally I do not like getting wet when fully clothed, but it was refreshing today once I got over the shock of it being splashed on me. Then we headed to Camp Minnie-Mickey. I thought it was clever that they call the people working in that area “camp counselors.” We saw “Festival of the Lion King.” I thought it would be a summary of the movie like Nemo was, but instead it was a Lion King inspired singing / dancing / acrobatics show. It was pretty good. We were going to go back to the hotel at this point, but then realize we would only get to stay an hour or two before we had to come back and ride the safari ride not open after dark and for our dinner reservation. Then we saw “Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends.” It is a kids’ show with the theme of “save the forest.” It was OK, and it was also nice to be able to sit in a shaded area. Then we went up to the Africa land. We walked through Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, which was another walk and see exotic animals thing. The coolest animal on this one was a big male hippo. He was trying to sleep, but every few minutes he would come up for air and sometimes he would open his mouth. Then we rode Kilimanjaro Safaris. On that ride you sit on an open-air sort of tour bus thing and look at safari animals like elephants and rhinos and giraffes and deer-like creatures. It was cool to see them all. Then we saw the show “Flights of Wonder” with lots of highly trained birds. My favorite was this white parrot with the yellow head features. Whenever the trainer would mention “chemicals” or “pollution” the bird would whip its head around all crazy. So funny. They had lots of different kinds of birds in the show, and even some birds of prey. They brought out a bald eagle at the end. I really like watching trained birds perform. Then we headed out to “Rafiki's Planet Watch.” Not much to see there; just another place with a “save the planet” theme. I wonder is environmentalists had anything to do with this park being built? We had dinner at a place called “Tusker House Restaurant,” which is an African-inspired buffet. I only had a few bites of each thing because I wanted to sample all the different foods. All the meats they had were good, and most the vegetables were too. All three rice dishes I had were not good. They dessert cart had a good selection. At all of the Animal Kingdom places that have straws they give you paper straws and not plastic. So weird. After dinner we went and rode the ride in Dinoland with the spinning mini roller coaster again. It was fun again. Then we headed back to the hotel a little after 8. It seems like my lower body gets worse every day of this trip. Sunday night I pinched my sciatic nerve a little bit, so I have to point my foot in a little to walk without pain. It is really messing up my lower back/pelvis alignment. Now I think my knee is hurting instead of the sciatic nerve. Each foot has several ouchie places from the shoes I wore yesterday, and one new one from today. *sigh*

((((Catherine)))) Bummer on the back issue!! Will be praying. Can you do some gentle stretching and centering exercises on the bed? Because, yes, with the compensating you are describing, it will get worse. Stretching should help and well placed rest moments in the day.

No, I don't think I'll go for the mouse ears. Maybe bunny ears.... She thinks I'm strange enough as it is. What anniversary? I can think of several off the top of my head....

Oh, THAT anniversary! It's later this summer. So who's that guy with the big ears and red pants in the email and why does he know our names?
