Zondervan being sued for $60 million in a federal lawsuit regarding the Bible and homosexuality!

Apparently some guy has suffered b/c the Bible his familys pastor uses, published by Zondervan, speaks against homosexuality and calls it a sin and those who practice it sinners. He claims it is a misinterpretation.

Here is the link to the story.

He may as well sue Crossway, and any other publisher out there as well. While he's at it, he can sue the gov'ts of Saudi Arabia and Egypt for publishing the Qur'an and Hadith which also speak against homosexuality.

Like he has a chance to win that case.

This is not even a credible lawsuit -- Zondervan didn't translate the bible. This will be thrown out. I thought suing McDonalds because you spilled hot coffee on yourself was a silly as you could get!......Guess I was wrong.

Well, people have won that lawsuit against McDonalds, somehow.

Perhaps this could win, even though we know it doesn't have merit. Kind of like suing God.

And I wager 99.9% would entail breaking the law...

Making public comments about the firm you work for?

I work for a great company, but if I went around saying that they were a bad company, I would probably lose my job. Just like a human, a company has the right to decide who it wants to do business with and hire to do a job. I'd imagine that there may be more limitations on the federal and state governments in whom they can hire or fire, but surely we can't get too antsy about someone losing their job. If you don't have contractual agreement about when and whether you can be fired, you generally serve at the will of your employer. If whoever's paying your paycheck simply doesn't like you, they really ought to have the right to get rid of you- or at least tell you that they don't like it that they're associated with you doing XYZ in public.

quote:

What "evil" did the person do in order for the state to act as God's minister of wrath for those who do evil?

Well, surely the government is God's appointed steward of morality and justice. While we're executing criminals for petty theft in the draconian society God obviously wants us to live in, maybe we could also discipline public employees who do stupid things in public.

I mean, the officer could have stood up there and said "Ahnold iz a big stoopid bodeebuilder, and we can solve the traffic problem if LA has another earthquake." Parts of this statement may or may not be true, but it's certainly something that a police officer wouldn't want to say if he wants to make friends with his superiors.

The McDonald's lawsuit, which is off-topic has no bearing because there were unquestioned physical injuries that were directly attributed to the actions of McD's employees.

The Zondervan suit is so stupid. Likely some personal injury attorney looking to get some free pub.

From Australia:

By Sean Fewster
July 05, 2008 09:28am

A WOMAN who starred in homemade pornographic movies with two teenage girls - whom she likened to US celebrities the Olsen twins - has had her jail term erased. South Australia's Full Court of the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday replaced Rebecca Jane Clarke's "excessive" 12-month jail term with a two-year good behaviour bond. The 23-year-old, of Goulburn in New South Wales, remains a convicted sex offender, but only for now. Although the court upheld her convictions, she has flagged a High Court challenge so she can pursue her dream of working with disadvantaged children.

Mass. court: Gay couples can't claim past benefits

BOSTON (AP) Marriage benefits for gay couples can't be applied retroactively to the time before same-sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts, the state's highest court ruled Thursday.

The Supreme Judicial Court issued the ruling as part of a malpractice case brought by Cynthia Kalish and Michelle Charron, who was diagnosed with breast cancer a year before the couple married in 2004.

Charron sued her doctors for malpractice, saying they should have ordered a biopsy earlier. As part of the case, Kalish also sued for loss of marital companionship. Charron died in 2006.

The lawyer for Charron's doctors contested the claim of loss of companionship, saying the couple was not legally married when Charron was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kalish and the couple's daughter claimed the couple would have been married at the time of the diagnosis if same-sex marriage had been allowed by law.

Gay bishop fights exclusion from conference
Rachel Zoll - Associated Press religion Writer - 7/13/2008 3:15:00 PM

LONDON - The first openly homosexual U.S. Episcopal bishop was barred from a once-a-decade Anglican meeting so he wouldn't become a focus of the global event. Anglicans on all sides of the issue agree: The strategy has backfired. New Hampshire Bishop Gene Robinson has been embraced by sympathetic Anglicans in England and Scotland who view his exclusion as an affront to their Christian beliefs.

Massachussetts to expand same-sex weddings
Change would allow out-of-state duos to 'marry'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lawmakers in Massachusetts are resurrecting a once-abandoned bill that would allow out-of-state duos to visit, obtain a Massachusetts "marriage" and then return home and create "havoc" with it, according to a pro-family organization.

"This bill would destabilize the Massachusetts marriage laws," wrote Brian Camenker in his Mass Resistance alert on the issue. "Currently no out-of-state couple can get 'married' in Massachusetts if that marriage would not be legal in their home state. This would overturn that law."

McDonalds Strikes Back at Family Boycott with Charges of "Hate"
By Peter J. Smith

OAK BROOK, Illinois, July 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Fast food giant McDonald's is returning fire against a pro-family boycott, saying family advocates opposed to their affiliation with pro-homosexual organizations are guilty of "hate."

The American Family Association has led the boycott of McDonald's restaurants since July 3, after the global hamburger empire refused requests to remain neutral in the culture wars and to withdraw their public support from the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), a homosexual lobby that pushes same-sex "marriage."

Instead, McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman told the Washington Post that the boycott was motivated by "hate" and McDonald's would continue to remain in the NGLCC.

Massachusetts Governor degrades self and insults state, marching in depraved homosexual parade.
Very disturbed people playing out serious issues. This is the "gay" movement in Massachusetts.
July 2, 2008
It was the "Gay Pride Parade" in downtown Boston. If you had stood across the street from the Massachusetts State House on June 14, 2008 this is what you would have seen coming down the street. Normal people would not do what you're about to see. But this is the essence of the homosexual movement. These people have serious psychological issues.

Scroll down and you'll see our governor in the midst of all this. He degraded himself and insulted all of us by participating in this disturbing event.

Same Sex "Marriage": Illegal in All Fifty States

Sadly, many of the leading "conservative" and "Christian" pro-family organizations such as AFA, Liberty Council, ADF, FRC, ACLJ, and Focus on the Family have been in full surrender mode conceding this same liberal talking point that the court "legalized same-sex marriage in California" and that the only way to ensure preserving traditional male-female marriage is through a state constitutional amendment scheduled to be on the ballot in November.

The California Supreme Court issued a declaratory opinion that, in the view of the bare majority, banning same sex couples from marrying was unconstitutional and that the language of the initiative statute limiting marriage to one man and one woman must be stricken from the statute. Unfortunately however, the court doesn’t have the constitutional authority to re-write the marriage statute nor any other initiative statute for that matter.

If we want to win the culture war, then we must demand for the criminalization of all sexually deviant behavior, whether its homophilia, pedophilia necrophilia etc, and there should be no parole for people who engage in sexually deviant behavior.

Would that include heterosexual immorality (engaging in sexual relations when you're not married, adultery, prostitution, pornography, etc.)?

We'd better build more jails....

Christian conference message mobilizes gay-rights groups
LISA GILLESPIE • PUBLISHED JULY 14, 2008 12:15 AM

Jaye Thomas walked away from what he calls “a life of secret homosexuality.” Today he lives his life as a heterosexual man, an accomplishment for which he gives much credit to Exodus International, a Christian organization that ministers to people struggling with homosexuality.

A victim of sexual molestation for 12 years, Thomas said he fought his sexual feelings for other men and found support through Exodus. He will share his story at the group’s annual International Freedom Conference, Tuesday-Sunday at the LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest.

A native of Forest City and resident of Rutherfordton, Thomas works with the Truth Ministry of Spartanburg, S.C. Through Exodus, he said, “I found that I was not alone and there were other men like me that struggled.”

yes, but technically heterosexual immorality is not considered sexually deviant, but it is immoral nonetheless and should also be criminalized.

This is the only way to win the culture war, we must go on the offensive, we cannot win if we only stayon the defensive.

its time to take down the dens of perversion and immorality.

Lots of church-goers are breathing a sigh of relief, LOL.

Sodomy laws have already been struck down and any that remain are unenforceable. Same with adultery. The military continues to have regs against adultery but they are rarely enforced. Laws already exist re: sex offenses against children and sexual assault. Same for pornography and prostitution.

San Francisco Court Debates Religions’ Right to Oppose ‘Gay’ Adoption
Wednesday, July 16, 2008
By Randy Hall, Staff Writer/Editor

(CNSNews.com) - Was a resolution by the city of San Francisco condemning the Catholic Church’s teachings on homosexuality a violation of the U.S. Constitution or an expression of free speech? Oral arguments on this issue will be heard Wednesday by a panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The debate is a result of Resolution 168-06, which was passed unanimously on March 21, 2006, by the board of supervisors of the city and county of San Francisco and which urged the archbishop of San Francisco and Catholic Charities of San Francisco to defy church directives.

The document called on Cardinal William Levada, in his capacity as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican, to withdraw his “discriminatory and defamatory directive” that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco stop placing children in need of adoption with homosexual households.

Counselor fired over Christian beliefs
Jeff Johnson - OneNewsNow - 7/18/2008 8:00:00 AM

A professional counselor has been fired for referring a homosexual patient to another counselor for relationship advice. The counselor who was dismissed is a Christian.

Marcia Walden is a professional counselor who worked for Computer Sciences Corporation, a government contractor that provides Employee Assistance Program counselors to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But Walden was suspended and subsequently fired when she referred a homosexual CDC employee to another counselor for advice on the woman's same-sex relationship.

Census Bureau Won't Count Gay Marriages
Federal Act Bars Recognition, Agency Says

WASHINGTON -- Same-sex marriage is legal in two states, but not a single one will show up in the 2010 census.

The Census Bureau said the federal Defense of Marriage Act bars the agency from recognizing gay marriages in the nation's 10-year count, even though the marriages are legal in Massachusetts and California.

The agency's director, Steven Murdock, said in an interview Thursday that the 1996 federal law "has that effect, in terms of being a federal agency. We are restricted by it."

The Census Bureau does not ask people about their sexual orientation, but it does ask about their relationships to the head of the household. Many gay couples are listed in census figures as unmarried, same-sex partners, though it is an imperfect tally of all gay couples.

Murdock said the bureau will strive to count same-sex couples in the 2010 census, just as it has in the past. But those people who say they are married will be reclassified as unmarried, same-sex partners.

Same-sex couples with no children will not be classified as families, according the bureau's policy.

Have you already discussed this case in this thread?

It is the story of a boy named Lawrence King who was shot/murdered by Brandon McInerney.

It's a complicated story, but basically Larry King (15) was a very disturbed boy (difficult home life) who had declared himself to be gay, and acted "out" while at school. He wore high heels, make-up, caused a fuss, hit on other boys...He specifically hit on Brandon McInerney (14, who also had home issues), and Brandon shot him one day in school.

Brandon is to be arraigned this week. I pray that he is tried as a juvenile.

The whole story is quite sad.
