Yep, it should be fun Mike! I would wear a grass skirt so long as I can wear shorts! But I don't plan to hula so I hope they don't ask. I just don't want to appear antisocial!
I think so, with the paint. I wouldn't want to get a house that had someone else's color scheme in it!

I very much hate painting. We bought a house with a purple and green color scheme and I had no problem keeping it that way. We did paint the yellowish living room bright white though.

Oh my, purple and green is unusual. Is it dark? Probably restful? I wouldn't mind yellow in a room, but I'm so used to neutral colors that I can't plan a paint color scheme any more. I'm OK accessorizing though!

I have four sons. One wanted his bedroom painted purple and the other wanted his painted a deep forest green. Dh shakes his head at these colours but I want to keep them even after the boys leave. They give the rooms character. I'm already working on what "theme" each room will have. The dark green one will have a forest theme. I'm still working on what to do with the purple room. The son with the purple room is an artist and has many drawings on the walls which I also want to keep. (One thing that's so cute is that he has drawn a wee little heart every single day since he met his girlfriend about four years ago. The doorway to his closet is covered in these little hearts.)

When our daughter was a teen she wanted forest green in her room. We did neutral walls and painted the doorframes forest green, green blind and green ceiling fan, green bedding. She chose western pictures with green matting. We will most likely get a small house than we have now and I definitely want to keep that room theme. Our son wanted black, so we did black blind and ceiling fan and black bedding. He didn't want it decorated as he put his own stuff on the walls. Now we have the black them and it's got New Orleans theme in black and white pictures and solid black jazz band plaque. This we will keep, too. See what I mean about accessorizing. I will probably always do it that way, with the plain walls that look light and airy and deflect the heat rather than absorb it. In a colder place like yours, I would have to try harder to work with color in the paintwork!
I like the forest theme. Are you going to preserve the hearts? That's so sweet! Purple, hmmm, that's a challenge. All I can think of are two songs, "Flying Purple People Eater," and "Purple Cow." I just remembered, it's considered a "royal color," so you can treat him like a king!!!

Yeah, I'm preserving the hearts for sure and some of the other art work on the walls. The hearts are really quite pretty because they're random (not in well defined rows) and of differing sizes (though all small). I like the idea of royalty, though this purple isn't the deep royal purple--more like purple Easter eggs.
As I was writing this, I think I decided the theme for the large bedroom that was vacated until ds1 moved back home (he'll only be here for about a year). Prairie! We live in the prairies (with the forest only an hour away) and there are so many things that would fit that theme. Dh has painted many pictures with a prairie theme; a large arrangement of dried grasses; birds and animals from the prairie and so on (I guess the python skin would have to come down, lol).
Your colour themes sound cool. I would never have thought of black but the jazz theme is awesome! I wonder if some sort of music theme would work with purple--though all our instruments are on the main floor and this room is tiny.

Joy, we have no dangerous snakes of any kind in Manitoba. I think the python that donated its skin lived and died in India.
Sunset is a possibility though our sunsets are rarely purple. I was walking downtown last night after the sun had gone down but before it was dark. The sky was beautiful. The moon was bright and round (full moon or close to it). The sky was perfectly clear and in the direction I was looking, the colour was perfectly the same through the whole sky with no variation. At first it was a royal blue but as I continued to walk it became progressively darker to a navy blue and then finally to black. The moon looked like a jewel against dark velvet.
And yes, the prairie is gorgeous. I love visiting other places and seeing their beauty but when I return to the prairie I want to get down and kiss the ground. I don't, but I sure feel like it!
Joy, would you say hi to Dena for me? I miss her. Tried to connect with her once but I don't know if I was successful or not because she never replied.

Thanks for passing the message on to Dena, Joy. I really do miss her.
You should try to connect with Missionfest up here in Winnipeg. It would be cool to meet you! And you'd get to see the Canadian Prairie too!
We've been in our house 23 years. I don't even want to THINK about all the work it would be to move. Hopefully I won't have to for a very long time.

Maggie, we would love that, but we do have a Canadian office from which the activities in Canada are directed. So they would be the ones to decide and to assign people to go. That would probably mean the one Canadian lady who works at HQ in CA and people from the Canada office. This way it is more economically feasible for them. What are the dates of the Mission Fest? Do you know how to get in touch with Winnipeg MissionFest? They go to Vancouver every year but I don't know if they're aware of this one.

Well, the dining room is dark purple and a weird shade of green sort of like this. The floor has dark green tile.
The kitchen has printed wallboard up (manufactured home), and has a dark green ruffle thing over the window.
One of the bedrooms is a medium cheery shade of green which is much nicer than the dining room. The room also has green carpet.
One bedroom has maroon carpet and deigned wallboard that "works with" the carpet. Even though it is maroon we call that room "the red room."
The rest of the house is white, off white, or cream colored.

Thanks for the tour of your home, Catherine! That was nice! I have gotten so used to off white that I hope our next place will have it so we don't have to get it painted. Maybe I'm just weird! In CA they are really particular about how you have your house fixed up to sell. I notice in TX that some pictures of houses often have unkempt yards, trees touching the roof, unusual color schemes inside, etc. One even had an obviously broken blind on the sliding doors!

Oops, I should be reading your blog and thread more often, Mike.
Our church held a Luau for us on Sat. to say Aloha and help us on our way. We were amazed at all they did to put the evening together. The food was wonderful, there was entertainment, a silent auction, and they had us share a bit about what's in the works. It was held on the patio and lawn (big area) of church folk who love to show hospitality. They live in the country so we were surrounded by fields and hills, a beautiful setting. The church folk all know we're not able to go yet, but wanted to do this for us. It was really nice!

How nice of your church to do that for you, Joy! Luau was a word I was able to play in a Scrabble game last night. I couldn't get it to fit anywhere though. But what IS a luau? A party of some sort, I'm guessing.
