I have nothing to say of any consequence, but I just wanted to make my bratty little self known. No charge--I'm feeling generous today!

((((DebbieLynne)))) Your bratty self is always welcome in my thread!

It was a good day but a long day. I'm trying to get together what I'm going to do for my mom's birthday. I've decided to go "Greek" - gyros, greek salad, a greek type of cake, etc, etc. Tomorrow we'll see how much damage this will all cost...

I'm still praying about which direction to head career wise, but I think I'm about 90% sure that I should apply with the jail. A lot of officers around here started there and said it's great experience and really helps you get hired on with the local police departments. Plus you get to know a lot of the people you will be "dealing with" as a patrol officer... I think I have the warped personality to handle it too... Snicker! Snicker!

(((Terri))) Missed you too! Glad you are back online!

It's Friday!!!

I have a ton of stuff to do in the next few days - starting with a huge list of stuff to get afterwork tonight. I'm hoping the grocery part won't be as bad as it looks because a lot of it is veggies & fruit. Not all of it though... There goes my paycheck...

That could be a good way to get your foot in the door, Kristin! What type of training would you need?

Thanks! I always do!

Well, today was one of those days that I just couldn't get out of bed in the morning so I skipped my run. Now I'm counting down until I can go home... I just feel super lazy and I don't know why. What is that saying? I think my get up and go, got up and went...

That is what happens when you start getting older...........

I wouldn't put my foot in the door in jail. They are heavy and you have to depend on someone else to open it.

Being a jailer does give you a chance for a lucrative second income dealing in contraban.

I think I'll pass on the second income... I'd like to only be in jail WORKING there... not as a guest... However, if you're ever in the area, I can probably arrange some overnight accomadations for you...

As far as Deb's question - the way this department does it, this is how it would work:

After getting hired (after all the testing, testing and more testing), you would start working at the jail immediately with an FTO (field training officer). You basically stick to them like glue and learn all the different areas the correctional officers work. You work each area until they feel you know what you are doing. This apparently usually takes a few months. Next, you head off to the academy which for correctional officers, takes about 1 month. Assuming you graduate, you then head back to the jail, where you are on a probationary period for a year. Of course, no matter how long you have been there, you are required to take part in monthly training.

Eeek! Jail. I've never worked in a jail- only been inside to drop prisoners off. In my opinion, the jail can be more stressful than patrol. Mainly because you deal with the same element day in day out. A bunch of people who have a pattern of behaving badly. On patrol you get to deal more with the victims. But you do learn a lot in jail. Good training ground, so to speak.

Yeah. I don't think I'd want to make a career of it, but I know I'll learn a lot and I know I can handle it. Plus, everyone said that it's never dull... There are some interesting characters in there! Ha!

Some of my officer friends in this area said that it's a great way to get hired in patrol though - and about half the officers I've met around here did just that. I don't know if I've just met the only ones who did that, or if a good portion of all the officers get their start this route.

One of my dad's workers was at this particular jail for a while and was a real mess. He said she cried all the time and had a really, really hard time of it. The one thing she told my dad though was that the officers down there were awesome and really helped her through her time. She said they would give her hugs, ask her how she was doing and even pray with her. That says a lot to me of the kind of staff they have.

Prayer! Yer darn tootin' that says a lot about the staff. That's awesome! I can think of many a time I would have benefited from prayer on the job. How cool is that?

A woman with a gun, now actually that is a good thing! It is my thinking that women would have better aim than men.

I don't know Mike. One of my favorites bumper stickers was on a ladies car in Florida. It read WARNING I HAVE PMS. And a hand gun.

But Sam, I still think that they have good aim, but then again some of my best haircuts have been by men instead!

Actually she wasn't on staff .... but some of the officers did pray with her!

OK, unfortunately, I can't post the entire think because it would violate TOS, but I just had to share part of one of the most hilarious "letters" I've ever read in my life that has circulated via email. It's really for women, but it goes right along with this. It has to do with idiotic things companies use to market feminine products. Here is part of the quote:

quote:

If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like "Put Down the Hammer" or "Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong"

I can't believe I forgot to post my news! You'll have to pardon me while I gloat for a minute.

I ran in a 2 mile race this morning. Fortunately, the fastest runners were running the 10K... Hehehe! , but as I hit the turn around point for the 2 mile, I realized that only a few women were ahead of me. Even though I haven't been feeling the hottest this week (stupid allergies ), I was pushing myself and feeling good (once I got going that is!). Towards the end, I was neck and neck with another gal and we tried to outsprint each other to the finish line. I think she beat me by a nose but we got the small crowd at the finish line going. A few people actually came over after the race and commented on it. Anyway, I thought I'd stick around for the awards. I was hoping that maybe I placed for my division (women, 30-34) - I was thinking there was a chance I got 3rd - but I had no idea. Long story short: I ended up taking 1st place for my division! I couldn't believe it! I also got a personal best.

OK, gloat over!
