Speaking of GC bas players, does anyone know what Anthony Rhodes is doing? He played bass before Adam.

It'd be great seeing them with a band anywhere, but especially at NQC! It's interesting how two groups (The Kingsmen & Brian Free & Assurance) lost their bands, but one group is now gaining one.

Seems like Kev said they would debut at Gatlinburg. But, don't hold me to it.

ORIGINAL: quaidnewcome Ever since Mark left, it's like the group has been grasping at whatever musical style they can, trying one out on one project, another on the next one, and on and on. Haven't really found their nitche yet. But they might be closer than they've been for a while. I would hardly call it "grasping at whatever musical style they can." After Mark left, they recorded Camp Meeting, a table project of old songs, followed by Walk The Talk and A GC Christmas before Jay left. Both projects, to me anyway, were still the same style has previous releases, just pushed forward a little. First Class continued that style, but was a little... off might the best way to put it. The project was started with Jay, but Steve Ladd came in to finish it. Tim was getting ready to retire and Bill Lawrence was around, even in the photo shoot for the project. The group's last three non-Christmas projects (Heaven, Revival, Moment Of Truth) have all featured music tracks with varying degrees of a country flavor. Moment Of Truth scaled back on the heavy country sound, but it is still clearly there. I agree with you that they have found their niche, but they really haven't had to try out that many to find it.

Heard it today.. can you say "overuse of Autotune?" dont like the group since Tim left. He WAS Gold City in my opinion... Aaron sounds similar I guess, but this is the crux of why I dont like the sound. If you are going to sound like someone, you better be twice as good! Ive heard Tim, he was the best at being Tim.

As I said on the other thread - I love Moment of Truth - there are places that Aaron sounds a bit like Tim but not enough to be considered a 'knock off'. Gold City has had many phases, I've seen and heard them through them all. This is a solid group with a great blend and tight sound. Tim is no longer able to travel and I'm glad to see the group going on! quote:

Im nothing if not honest. I would much rather hear someone say "man, that record of yours is terrible" than to give me some generic "that was good, honey" I respect Gold City and all the other groups out there, but until I go deaf, i am going to form opinions about things that I hear... This one didnt do it for me,. thats that. Much of why I dislike the record can be laid at the feet of the engineer(mix engineer)(s). as far as Aaron goes, ive never met him.. but I have met Tim Riley and I know how he sounded.. Honest opinions, good or bad are welcome in my house. anyway, Im not being negative. Im voicing my opinion. If I were spouting rumours about the group or making personal attacks on the character of those guys, yeah..sure, you could call me negative..... but to say im being "negative" simply because I like the old lineup better and dislike this record?? That is a bit extreme and fanatical, Mrs. Bailey. Variety is the spice of life and all that..yadda yadda. quote:

I have nothing against honesty but honest or not, things can be stated in less abrasive ways. I've known Tim for years and I LOVED the group with Jay, Jonathan, Mark & Tim and the full band. But that doesn't mean I have to be negative to everyone that came after them.

I am all for constructive criticism (there is not enough of it in the Southern Gospel industry). Solutions on how to fix whatever one feels to be broken should follow up constructive critcism. Do I think Moment Of Truth is Gold City's best album ever; No. Do I think it is terrible; No. Would I be able to write an objective review on the album if I had to; Yes. Maybe you can offer us a proper review of the album from an engineers/producers stand point. I would read it.

to Seaton: Sir(or Ma'am) , nothing in this busted breaking globe is positive all the time. Ive already stated that my primary quibble with the recording has to do with the abuse of autotune... now there isnt a group alive that sings in tune all the time, and in certain instances autotune can be used with a low-profile in such a way that it isnt "heard" .. but when it (or any other tool a studio engineer has at his/her disposal) does anything other than pass the music through it , invisibly... I have huge problems. Obviously GC are good and they have legions of fans supporting them, but we should all be honest in our appraisals ..without pulling any punches. Criticism is a catalyst for change... hopefully I wont hear autotune on the next release. I came to SG from 7 years in the Army, 3 tours in the sandbox... so no, i'm not one for putting shellac on anything I say..and you know what, I have a great amount of respect for those that just skip all the niceties and tell me like it is. That isnt everyone's MO, but it is mine. So again... my issue is the abundance of autotune. Stylistically, musically, the album was really good, and still sounds like GC. (that is important..that is , to be consistant, and they are) quote:

I really like reading the Gold City thread, but I'm considering NOT reading it. If everyone would stop replying and debating the negative commentator, maybe this would die down and we could get back to general conversation!

I'm looking forward to the chance of seeing them in a month at Silver Dollar City! Their live performances are awesome! (and with the idea of them having a band, makes it even more worthwhile!) Oh, and a note to all those who go to SDC... They pay for the rights, so pull out that video camera and roll away!

O.K. folks I am about as disappointed in my fellow posters here in SG as I have ever been. I read all od ncdrawl's post and his were not as negative as some of the others and I read both threads. We wonder why artist won't post here yet when one does, for those that do not know ncdrawl is the bass singer for the Stamps Quartet, we run them off. If he don't like Gold City or the Current sound Gold City is producing he is entitled to that opinion. If this is the way we are going to treat the artist when they do bother to post I think I may as well leave also.

I must say that I am totally shocked that anyone has said anything negative about Gold City's latest project, Moment Of Truth. Everyone I have talked to in person absolutely loves it. Many have said it is among their best ever, to which i agree. Most projects from any group will have a few songs that people tend to skip over, but there is not a song on this project that I ever skip; every one is fantastic. Gold City is definitely back on top.

I'm just a fan that loves Gold City's music. Yeah, I still like the Cathedral's version of "Turn Your Back" better.... but that's not going to stop me from listening to the song on Gold City's new album! I'm just glad they finally put out a new album, and I'm looking forward to "Classics Volume 2" later this year! Everyone will probably bash them for resinging the old classic songs, but I'm looking forward to listening to the project!

(that is important..that is , to be consistant, and they are) ncdrawl, Let me first apologize to you if you felt my earlier response was a slam to your original statement. That was not my intent. I respect everyone's opinion and welcome to hear more of what you have to say on matters related to Southern Gospel music. I think the issue came down to the way you addressed the original thread regarding the new recording. And to other readers of this thread let me also apologize if any of my responses may have prolonged an un-needed exchange. I think there is a proper way to debate things about the music we all love in a constructive, well thought out manner. And ncdrawl, I do appreciate that last statement regarding the recording. Now back to our regluarly scheduled programming....

I do LOVE this new recording. I remember when "Pillars of Faith" came out and it being on the edge of where SGM was going without compromising the SGM way.... For the record, the YOUTH actually LOVE "Pillars of Faith" (the best album GC ever made) and one of my fav projects of all time. This new recording is the same way with me. I love it, its good!!!!
