They actually only use tracks on certain songs to add parts (example: Midnight Cry uses a track just to add strings). Most of the time, it's all live though Actually... Everything is a split track. meaning that there is extra instrumentation on every track. So in GC case, everything is on tracks except drums, piano, bass, and lead guitar. So everything is live to a certain extent.

ORIGINAL: MidActsBibleBeliever Have they done away with all the extra instruments via track, or does the band play along with the other instruments? I know I have seen groups with just piano players who still have the elaborate instrumental arrangements, and just have the piano player playing along with it. The oddest thing was the Brooklyn Tab. Choir that is always singing back up with BFA on "Long as I got King Jesus"!!! hehe I always thought it was cool to see the Kingsmen live, because the live band sound, had different intros and really sounded different than the CD muscians, with their real fancy intros. It was the Christ Tabernacle Choir on that recording; not the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

I'm glad to see the band as well. From a skillset point of view, I think Adam Borden would have been a better pick for bass player than Taylor. I know Taylor played with the Hoppers and the Singing Americans for a while. Guess Adam wasn't available or maybe not interested as he's doing session work now from what I understand. Rev. ORIGINAL: Amerigrammy Are we jumping the gun just abit? To my knowledge they havent put the new album out yet so we really don't for sure what direction they are headed if any! I am a purist and hope they will stay true to their roots but I am not ready to assume and second guess them without proof. If they come out and lean towards ccm I will be disappointed but until they do they still have my utmost respect and admiration. I still say their recordings from the 80's and 90's are THE standard. I can't get enough of the live version of When He calls, I'll fly away.....well, at least Tim's humongous slide on the end.....I could live without Jay's off pitch scream but I admit it was entertaining....I think though I love the energy in Jonathan's voice when he says "C'mon Jay sing that tenor.....that kills me! Speaking of Jonathan, has anyone ever heard him sing "Somethings Never Change?" He used to sing it when he was with his parents....one of my all time fav ballads... I like Gold City today but they are a far cry from what they used to be. There latest cd is leaning more toward the county music instead of Southern Gospel. The best line up by far was when Tim, Mark, Jonathan, Jay, Doug, Channing, and Adam were togeher. Jay will always be a great singer and tenor. And Amerigrammy, Jay has NEVER been off pitch.

These kinds of comments have always bothered me, but there is always someone who has to live in the past. I have always been a Gold City fan, and while those line-ups of the past were AMAZING, the current group needs to be given a chance too. They are great! I think Gold City just keeps getting better and better all the time. You would be hard pressed to find a group out there that compares to their talent level. I am very excited about how things are going with Gold City!

ORIGINAL: Matt_Dibler_Fan ...And Amerigrammy, Jay has NEVER been off pitch. Um, yes, he has. He's human, so he HAS been off pitch. Is he very good? Certainly. But, NO ONE is always on pitch. As far as on recordings, they are tuned electronically - most all groups are now-a-days. The ones that aren't, probably need to be. The ones that are usually have the time and budget to perfect their recordings. On one of the NQC videos, Parrack sang VERY flat on the high note at the end of the 2nd vs. of "In Time, On Time God". I'll admit that Parrack is a very talented singer- much better than most, I'd say. But to say he's NEVER been off pitch is just not true.

That night was completely unrehearsed. When you don't sing together very night and sing as high as he did every night. You kinda loose whatever it is that akes you sing high.

Let he (or she) who has never flatted, hit the first note. yeah, it may have been off there, but it was OUTSIDE, and in the night air, and well in the summer, and from someone who hasnt been practicing it as much, I'll listen to jay sing like that a lot more than i listen to a lot of people sing just once. COME ON JAY!!!!

Not singing together might make you miss some cues and what not but has little to do with pitch. I would imagine it's more likely he was having a tough time hearing being it was an outdoor venue and not having a normal EQ setup in the monitors.

Has anyone but me noticed that in Photos Daniel always seems to be in the back of the group. It's like he is intentionally putting the other guys up front. That is classy IMHO.

I can see where he might do that on stage, but I would assume if it's a professional photograph that the photographer has made the decision to do that.

I always thought it funny that whoever Mark Trammell was with, he'd always end up in front! Has anyone noticed this?

RE: Danny in the back; Mark in the front Both are classy guys, but I would say that their placements in pictures as A LOT to do with their height.... or lack there of. As Jay used to post in his Jay's Gems section on Gold City's website... "Pray for Mark!"

Thanks everyone who answered this for me! Jay has been off pitch and was on the clip that I saw. Jay is a SUPERB tenor but on that recording he missed it, happens to every singer at some point. I stan dby my post, I think the new group should be given a chance to make their own mark and I think that are doing that, making a name for themselves..... quote:
