We attended the GC Homecoming a couple of months ago and saw the new lineup. I think the guys sound great!!!!! I bought Moment of Truth and love it! "I Cast My Bread..." is one of my favorites on there, too. I don't mind a little progressive as long as we don't go too jazzy or P&W style and the message is great.

ORIGINAL: youngartist My bro and I (long-time GC fans) are giving them a chance, but the song selection left some to be desired. The new lineup is good, but they risk going too progressive. That said, there are some great songs on the album, just slower-paced. I really enjoy this new line-up live. They blew me away the last time I saw them in concert. I do agree with your statement about song selection. That is one thing I found about the new album, Moment Of Truth. My favorite song on the album is their cover of "I Cast My Bread Upon The Water". There are several songs I usually skip over when listening to the album. I don't think their sound is any more progressive than it has been the last 5 to 6 years. It does have a bit more country flavor to it though. I would say songs like "When Jesus Saves" are much more progressive than anything on, say, "Walk The Talk." "Revival" pushed the envelope, but it was very good. I don't mind progressive (I'm a fan of some progressive SG), but I just said they "risk" going too progressive. I didn't say they already were, just that they risk it. I'm with you, Seaton. There were several goods songs, but I stand by my statement that they are capable of better song selection. p.s. I LOVED their live performances at NQC this past weekend. I'm not dissing the current lineup, just that the cd was not my all-time favorite

Well, last night was Gold City's concert here in Springfield. And oh, was it good. But then again, when it comes to Gold City, I'm a little biased! I'll have to give a run down of the concert later, but I will tell you this... I was able to take 9 teens to the concert, and none were disappointed! As many of you know, Gold City has a few songs that everyone likes, but the soundtracks are hard to find. Well, I asked about a few of those songs last night. Daniel was able to give me the answer, they had just posted them on their website a few days ago as e-tracks! So, as you can imagine, I'm planning on getting a few when funds become available!!!

I saw the "new" Gold City for the first time at NQC and really enjoyed them. I bought their new cd as well. I really like "I Love This Land".

ORIGINAL: Amerigrammy Does anyone remember an early recording of GC where they sang "Ezekial saw the wheel" and Tim made some comments about wanting a piece of watermelon before he sang it? I have often wondered what that was all about? Was there any controversy over it? Seemed out of line to me.... Time have changed. Political correctness would probably prohibit Tim ever doing that bit onstage again. (He actually did it on the live recording but was doing it "live" all the way up til around 1996. For those who don't know what we're talking about, "Ezekiel Saw The Wheel" is what is often referred to as an "old negro spiritual". And, before singing it, Tim would affect the voice of an older African-American who wanted a piece of watermelon before he sang it. During the years I've known Tim, I can tell you he's a kind-hearted gentleman. He never intended it to be demeaning or condescending toward anyone. Tony Rush Gold City's version of "Ezekial Saw the Wheel" is almost an exact replica of The Dixie Hummingbirds' earlier rendition. You can hear The Dixie Hummingbirds version on "The Best of The Dixie Hummingbirds: The Millennium Collection". Once you hear that, there is no doubt where Gold City's style came from on that number!

Did anyone notice that "I Cast My Bread Upon The Water" is already at number ten on the November chart? Pretty fast mover. It debuted on the Oct. chart. If this song goes to number one, it would be one more affirmation for GC's new lead singer.

I asked Steve about those and the other KingsGold DVDs, and he says they'd like to. I don't know if that means they will in the near future... but I can hope!

Thanks abigail and matt for the youtube Gold City videos!!! And I have been watching and listening to Bruce a lot. Folks, this is one of the better voices you will EVER EVER hear. His version of "I'm Rich" when they were at Silver Dollar City is totally GREAT!!! The band just adds another dimension to what is a GREAT group. Lookout for Gold City, I can't say they are back, cause they werent ever GONE....but i can say, they have put "it into another gear and are full speed ahead. Tim must be very proud.

Gold City was wonderful tonight in Wooster, oHIO, also had Crossway (Just 2 guys), and a group from Canada called High Valley. They are 3 brothers , one plays mandolin, one guitar, one bass, and they sing, kind of bluegrass, they were real good. I enjoyed Gold City a lot, mostly songs from the latest 2 CDs , plus some classics thrown in there. The had no band, but Josh was great on keyboards.

I really like "For The Sake Of My Heart" and "I Love This Land" on the newest CD. I like the current lineup but my favorite lineup is Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Mike LeFevre, Tim Riley, Garry "Taco" Jones (piano), Doug Riley (drums) & Mark Fain (guitar).
