I'm so sorry. I've been praying for you, sweetie. What happened at the dr?

I'm doing ok. I really struggled every evening of my vacation. Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful and I really had a blast preparing it and the kids even ASKED if they could help me!!! Katy opted to peel about 5 lbs of potatoes and Austin made an apple spice cake with minimal direction from me!!!

I'm back at work today and looking forward to a little more normalcy in my life. So far December is looking to be a fairly calm and quiet month.

LOL!!!!!

Yes, my girl has been showing a lot more interest in cooking lately. She usually asks to help with dinner. Austin really surprised me when I offered to let him make the cake that he said yes. He's almost 14 so I figured it would be too girly for him to do.

Better for them to learn now. I never got taught to cook. Aged 16, I was living in a house with 5 other people, and I got thrown in the deep end and was expected to cook dinner every night. I learned on the run.

You might have some budding chefs in your household.

LOL, I never really learned to cook either. It wasn't until the last 5 years or so that I've really really grown to love it.

I'm not very good at baking, because you have to be a lot more precise, but give me a bunch of ingredients for a main meal, and I'll experiment to my heart's content. No recipe books. It usually turns out pretty good too.

I can't bake either. I'm gonna try this weekend though. I want to try those recipes you sent me and make some other Christmas cookies, too. Austin had an extra credit thing to do for Language Arts in that he had to make sugar cookies following a recipe in his book (I think the assignment was about following directions). He made the dough last night (it needs to be chilled overnight) and tonight he'll roll it out and use cookie cutters to make cookies. I really really hoover at rolling out dough so it should be interesting.

I could never just wing it...I need a recipe!

Do you get filo pastry over there? It's like a paper thin pastry. I've been known to either fill the filo pastry and make parcels out of them by putting either chicken or fish in them, and adding herbs or herbed butters and other things to it. Once, we had some friends coming over for dinner, and I was doing that. There was plenty for dinner, John and Joan had some for breakfast the next day, and we were giving it away to the neighbours because I'd got a bit carried away with all the cooking. LOL!

Have fun with your baking. Let me know how the sugar cookies go.

We have filo here. I bought on accident once instead of regular pastry sheets to make a recipe of wrapped chicken. I had no end of trouble with the filo, it was like paper and really hard to work with. The regular pastry dough, I think, is more like a pie crust type dough.

I rarely use pastry these days for anything as there's too many calories, but it's useful.

Thanks, Trish. Yesterday was just really hard with Sharon and Sheila. I just can't think of anything else really.

Our Christmas was absolutely wonderful. Everyone got exactly what they wanted. AND it was nice and quiet, just me, the kids, SO and his son and gf. It couldn't have been more perfect.

(((((((((((((((Trish))))))))))) I sooooo feel for you with all that heat!!! I remember back in July and August here when it was over 110 for at least 10 days in a row. You just feel so wiped, you just can't do anything.

Joan's actual birthday is the 16th of January. We're going out for dinner that night. There'll be 50 of us. (She has friends and family flying in from interstate as well as some friends here). Then she's having an afternoon tea on the 19th. There's 40 people coming along to that.

Some of Joan's friends are staying with us around that time.

Wow, you have ALOT on your plate!!!!!!

Well, maybe not so much on MY plate. Have to share the food around.

People start arriving from interstate on the 15th. Some will be staying with us. One lady will be staying with a friend of ours as we don't have any more room. So, in the middle of getting things ready, we need to do the sightseeing bit etc. We're going to be so tired when everything is over.

Just for a vacation!! The only vacations I've ever really taken are to visit my mom in MN and my sis in WA. SO decided he wanted to go to Jamaica. It looked like a beautiful place and a lot of fun.
