My DH is crafting backpacks for his sons to use in Everquest. I don't play that. I am a one game gal.

Is Everquest similar in any way to World of Warcraft? I have watched my mom's husband and my sister play Everquest.

Yes, Everquest and WoW have many similarities. They're both the same general type of game, Massively Mutiplayer Online Role Playing Game. They also both happen to have a more or less "high fantasy" setting (meaning it's an elaborate alternate world with lots of magic, though WoW doesn't take itself seriously so it's got some elements that might be called "low fantasy" as well.) They also share a lot of the elements common to MMORPGs, multiple races, a developed class system, an in-game economy, questing, monster slaying, etc.

To a non-player there isn't a huge amount of difference between the two. They're at least as much alike as Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog. Or SimCity 2000 and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Or Bridge and Spades (the card games, at least I think those two are closer than say Bridge and Poker). Or indoor soccer and outdoor soccer.

Graphics are more detailed in Everquest. You can spend a great chunk of time Making equipment, etc. Although not as much time as it used to take a few years back. The theme song drives me nuts... good instrumentation but it loops around and around like the music you hear standing in line for a ride in the amusement park.

Yesterday I took the day off from the computer. No role playing games, no e-mail, no crosswalk forums... we went for a tour/ hike up Panola Mountain here in GA. The weather could not have been nicer and the tour guides were fun and informative. Took the motorcycle out there and back and listened to classical piano on the drive home (yes, the bike has a cd player).

So tonight's quandry will be, do I want to play my rouge or my elf? Do I feel like being sneaky (and short) and find gogs and gears or swift (and tall) and try to rebalance nature?

And my team mate, my dear sweet wonderful talented intelligent husband doesn't sneak attack me again.

Took the weekend off from WoW. Then last night I started up a new character on a PvP server. I really just started late last night and parked him. So he is just a lvl 2 baby. Dear wife started one day before yesterday on that server and we wanted to see how the PvP server world playing differs from normal.

We both play Horde characters. The advice we have been given so far is "don't do any Hillsbrad quests" and "stay off the roads".

For those non-players, a PvP server means you are free to attack other faction players at any time and not just when they have decided to allow it (by bringing their PvP flag up). Which means you are not only a target for the NPCs (non-playable characters - the guards and vendors and such in the game), beasts, and monsters, but also any other players who are online and in your range.

YOur new penguin icon looks like one of the poor currupted beasties I had to thin out as a level six night elf. Stand still while I put you out of your misery.

Actually, the Draenei are about the only race I would really want to play on Ally side. I have a Dwarf and a human, hunter has a Gnome, and my daughter has a Night Elf. I have played them all but I really don't like them as much as Horde races. Oh and the Blood Elves are so much cooler than the Night Elves

But my favorite? That would be my main character, but you will just have to wonder about that

Oh, and car2ner, I saw a video of the development of the Draenei's dance. The male's dance is really cool, the female's is ... charming . I also forced hunter to watch through a video of all the WoW race's dances set to "appropriate" music (like Riverdance for the female Dwarf, Bawitdaba for Undead male, Bad for the Night Elf male - you get the idea). It is so funny. Not sure link is appropriate in here.

I thought it looked like a camel too!!! However, she assures me it is a horse with its ears pinned back and its tongue stuck out. And I saw one of our horses pin its ears back today so I can believe it.

But yeah, it sure did look like a camel at first

Must be one ugly horse (sorry hunter)

I don't know if any of the WoW players here also watch Stargate Atlantis, but the writers made a big oops concerning the game. In last night's episode one of the characters was trying to distract a geeky scientist by pretending to be interested in WoW. The scientist, supposedly an obsessed WoW player, was talking about his character being a level 75 mage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the level cap was 70 in the beta for the new expansion (have they even started the beta for the Burning Crusade)?

Level 60 is the current max. I am sure the expansion will be out so people can put it on their Christmas lists.

I like the cartoony look of WOW. That is one reason Everquest doesn't appeal to me. An odd mix of trying to look real but still kinda "off". It doesn't please my eye. Everquest II requires alot of computer for all of those graphics.

But then again City of Heros is too cartoony for me. But developing the look of your character at the beginning is interesting because of the huge number of choices and options. I wish WOW had that many options.

Do you have to pay to play WoW? Do you have to pay for extra stuff to get good at the game? My mom's husband bought books about Everquest to help him play the game better.

World of Warcraft has a monthly fee for each player. Guild Wars does not have this fee after you buy the initial game. You can buy books or go to other websites for helps and hints, or do like I do, play with people who have been playing for awhile.

There were 4 of us last night and we got into an area where atleast half of us died in short order. Drats, running back from the graveyard and resummoning my pet are a pain, but atleast I don't have to feed my computer quarters.

HEY, that is an idea to help keep a handle on the amount of time on these games! Set it up so that you have to feed the computer quarters like the old pin ball games.

We went to the beach and took out a bunch of mermen type bad guys. We were taking them out fairly easily but one came up behind me and I didn't see it until too late. ah me oh my, another trip from the graveyard.
