thanks for commenting restored. my friend finally got BC activated and wasn't sure where Outlands was so I led him in there. i dumped most of my existing quests except for some ferelas ones i had progress on. the rewards from the first couple of quests we accepted convinced me. the gear is a lot better. in an attempt to save money, i have been using some gear for MANY levels including level 49-50 weapons i picked up in ZF. a lot of that gear was heavily enchanged (for free) so it wasn't too outdated, but it lacks big time versus what i've seen so far. so i gathered some quests as i escorted him thru real quick and can't wait to get back there.

are there any auction houses in shatt yet? i read once you pick an inn, your faction alliance is set. does it make a difference in terms of recipes or anything which i pick?

yes it does, the rep for Aldor gives differant perks and rep with the Scryers does. I can't tell you exactly which gives which but both my Jewel crafter and my Leather worker are in Aldor. If you set your hearthstone in Shatt it is easy to get to all the capital cities from there. I got a port there and set most of my alts there. At lowbie levels you don't have to commit to either faction.

congrats on 60. I had some horde guild mates noticed that my BE was level 21 and power ran me through a dungeon a couple of times for level 20-23 gear. A friend whispered that they were twinking me out for level 29 battle grounds.

There are not any AH in outland.... You have to port back to a major city for that (but they are all there in that center thingy in Shatt anyway).

Scyers vs Aldors...

Look at the quartermaster stuff BEFORE you choose a side.... Look for things that will work for your toon....

I am still trying to decide for my BELF priest....

She needs healing gear...

no it doesn't work that way... I am only in scyers tier right now b/c BELF's are naturally aligned scryer until you do the walkthru quest.

thanks for responses guys. i had some more questions from your added info and corrections of my assumptions and figured i'd try google and came across this comparison which looks great and explained a lot to me: http://www.wowwiki.com/Comparison_of_Aldor_and_Scryer_rewards

also has % by class which choice was made. it appears for warriors choose aldor about 70% of the time regardless of spec. yeah healing priests have a tough time choosing restored. that's awesome car2ner. i don't mind running friends as long as they don't ask for deadmines for more than a couple of times.

got the patch downloaded and waiting for 5 oclock eastern time to hit. It will be interesting to re-train toons that I've played often. My holy paladin will be the first to head towards 80.

I do have a lowbie blood elf and some other lowbie alliance alts, youth pastor. My husband and I play together most of the time and are part of a couple of very good guilds.

Alliance on Cenarius toons levels 21 - 70
Horde on Earthen Ring. (24-36)

Too many people on, everything is wonky.... people lined up at the portals in Shatt like folks lined up to catch a late train.
I have Wed off so I'll try then.

If you get in, you'll lag out or lockup too. I had to reboot the Mac several times from lockups. Waiting too.

I tried the WoW Forums but couldn't get them to open up either.

i read this might very well be the biggest mmo patch ever so i guess i'm not surprised there are issues but still disappointing ... i didn't have any time to play anyways last night but i have patches downloaded ... i should really have downloaded new addons too as most of mine will break ...

glad to hear about the new music ... i bought the collector's edition yesterday and it has the soundtrack included ...

followup to my earlier post, i went with aldor faction (as most warriors do) ...

wondering if i should create an alt for herbalism and inscription ... or just keep leveling up mining/skinning on my main for all that money that gathering brings in ...

It's inevitable...everyone will have an inscription alt. As I understand it, inscription is a way for people to enchant their own gear by passing the inscription parchment from their herbalist alt to their enchanting alt to whichever alt needs the enchantment. There goes the enchanting economy! I'm sure inscription won't cover all enchants (like weapon enchants), but I don't know for sure. Good luck finding herbs out there!

IWILLFEARNOEVIL: You went Aldor with your warrior? I thought most DPS/Tank classes went Scryer? All my high-level toons are healers, so I've just parked them Aldor without thinking about it myself.

Well I just redid the spec tree for my 39 mage. All arcane.

Now I have to think about the 70 mage. He has been a pyro/POM mage with heavy arcane for a long time. Will probably continue that.

Then figure out what to do with my 61 warrior.

Man. So much has changed.

By the way, as many of you know, professions in WotLK add new buffs. For example, miners get a stamina buff. Herbalists get a healing buff/feature. Have not read all the details yet for all professions.

So much to discover. I haven't seen the place so alive in a while, like everyone was holding their breath for this patch to come thru.

I enjoy the accomplishments. The one called "Going Down?" I accomplished by accident. I tried to fly my pally's elephant off the Aldor elevator. Silly me, my mount is not named Dumbo.

I think I'll keep my mage frost. I haven't respeced anyone yet. M'love and I don't like to "cookie cutter" our toons. It is nice to see that we can fine tune or toons for pvp or pve even more.

I'm also glad that I have only three hunter pets to spec. By the time I got my two horde toons done and 4 alliance toons and three pets speced, I needed to take a break.

And pvp is more like pvping again, and less like a huge race.

I'm powerlevelling my paladin's Inscription. I collected all the herbs (I hope) before this came out. hehe

I just haven't played much lately. Just too busy. Then too exhausted from being too busy. ;) When you don't have weekends, having time to fit in a game is hard...

Ugh. I need to transfer that 1.2G patch to hubby's machine. hehe

I've been using Cosmos and it is not going to be updated. Anyone have good over all UI to suggest to replace it?

If you are looking for a button mod, UTMod is fairly good. That is what I have always used.

Several things:

mods:

I have found Auctioneer to be extremely helpful in making me money.

Also useful is Cartographer Complete with databases. It really does a great job helping me keep track of quest items, prof items, and all sorts of other map-related stuff. One of my must haves.

Re-spec:

Redid the talents finally on my 61 undead warrior. Made him all arms so far. I have been mostly arms, but trying this for a change. Some good changes came with the patch for a DPS warrior.

Redid the talents on my 70 undead mage. Got pyro and POM back, but then really hit most other points in arcane. I have come to like that tree.

Other stuff:

I am a Linux nut. Love it. Don't like to use Winders at all. I finally sat down and did the tweaking to run WoW on Ubuntu Linux on one of our computers. The computer had modest specs, so my frame rate is kind of dismal, but playable. I still have some tweaking to do and maybe I will get back the extra fps I lost.

So yes Thrall, you can play WoW on Linux

Auctioneer is cool. The nice thing about Cosmos is that it combined alot of great mods and updated them regularly... kinda like one stop shopping.

We downloaded Questhelper. That is a very great help, especially for me, I get lost way too easily.

I think I am going to keep my mage in the Frost spec. She is only level 30. M'love and I tend to not jump on the band wagon. My pally is staying holy. His mage did migrate to aracane because fire took so long to shoot. He would start a fireball, and then I'd start an iceball and see if we could get them to hit at the same time.
