ORIGINAL: furrypurrykitty I'm reading a book called Being Dead Is No Excuse, a book about funeral customs in the Mississippi Delta. It's hilarious. Isn't it wonderful? Such good humor. There's an expression that says "Only the truth is funny", and you know these people exist! Some elements are not just Southern, but funny wherever they come from. One is that stuffed (deviled) eggs always show up at funeral receptions, so if someone gets the big oval egg platter down, you just automatically ask, "Who died?" As an Episcopalian, I roared at the description of the "socially correct" funeral from St. James, their observations on Episcopalians and "liquid refreshment", and the culinary rivalry with the Methodists (Episcopalians will sneer at the Campbell's soup-based cuisine of the Methodists, but they're always the ones caught out in the kitchen scarfing it down). I have to admit, I recognized the part where they said "any Southerner over 30" has already planned his/her funeral. On the list of most popular hymns for each denomination, I found I had selected two of the five Episcopal choices.
