She's Come Undone is a train wreck of a novel. It starts out bad for the main character and gets worse and worse. She just exchanges one abuser for another. It's so frustrating. Maybe it got better, but I was 2/3 of the way though and was disgusted so I got rid of it. House-keeping is good, but it doesn't have much plot. The language is really dense too. It's a short book (can't be much over 200 if it is) but I have to read slowly to pick up all of the minute observations and dry humor. There's a really lonely feel to it. I don't think I'd recommend it to everyone. It's a writer's novel, if you know what I mean. Critical darling, but no best seller.

Broken On The Back Row by Sandi Patty Sandi Patty recounts her rise in CCM , her fall from grace & long road back to God. Title is from Sandi's crying doing church service on the back row. This is a powerful testimony to the joy of forgiveness , repentance & restoration. Her pastor has written the last chapter of the book , helps you work your way back to wholeness & restoration to the body of Christ.

Just finished a compilation of Jonathan Edward's sermons," Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God". Am in the middle of "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide", a bound edition of Douglas Adams' 5 book series, and am rereading my "Fray" comic book collection and the "30 Days of Night" TBP trilogy.

My book club did "Housekeeping" a few months ago and it was an excellent discussion - everyone was engaged with it in a different way, but everyone was engaged, which by no means always happens. I got into it once I realized it was a novel and NOT an instruction manual [:'(]. We're going to do "Gilead" in a few months and I am looking forward to it.

I just started "Mississippi in Africa." It is about the slaves that were freed and then shipped to Liberia, Africa. It is a book I've been meaning to read for awhile because my church is very active in an area of Liberia. So far, pretty good.

I'm reading Bernard Goldberg's latest, _100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken is #37)_. It's a great look at the coarsening of the American culture and the people Goldberg believes are largely responsible for it. I just realized the title of the book may not pass the filters. We'll give it a shot! Joanne

I am currently reading Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti and Faithless, a collection of short stories by Joyce Carol Oates.

I am presently reading the late Dr. Stanley Grenz's recently revised book, 'Prayer: The Cry for the Kingdom. So far it's really good. "Grenz develops this understanding of petitionary prayer by exploring key questions that many Christians ask: What does it mean to pray "according to God's will"? How can I become a person of prayer? Should we persist in petitioning God for our needs? Does prayer really influence God? In the process of engaging these questions, Grenz offers advice on how to pray more effectively and issues a pertinent challenge to the contemporary church to recapture what it means to be a church that prays."
