ORIGINAL: John_O Well since you enjoy it so much I'll keep you posted. Today I removed 1/2 of the remaining tiles. Should get the rest off tomorrow. Then Saturday I can start re-sloping the tub and then on Monday I'll call the tile guy and let him know I'm ready for him. How exactly do you reslope the tub? Tons of caulking? quote:
I guess we'll overlook it this time. But next time I get out my red pencil and you'll lose your star for the day! Thanks for being gracious. Those red pencils are scary!

Seeing growth is always a good thing. The Girl has been unstoppable since she learned how to ride her bike. She's really come out of her shell and is making friends in the neighborhood. Last Tuesday night (I think it was) we had 7 little kids in teh backyard. I went to get something out of the garage and the Girl told me "This is a party!!!" Yesterday while she was over at her mamaw's house one of the little girls came to the door and asked "Can (the Girl) come out and play?" It was just too cute. And then tonight one of her little friends came over and had supper with us. This is the first time one of the neighborhood kids was over here to play. God has been very good to me.

Oh John, that's just so very cute! I can just picture all of them in the backyard too. Yes, God has been very good to you and her!

I was going to respond to this post last night but it choked me up a little. I can just see the joy radiating from her voice and sparkling eyes as she said this--the way that happy and excited kids do. How wonderful! How was your song this morning?

How was your song this morning? It went very well. It was a kind of unusual song for me as there's not room for a lot of audience interaction. It's more of a crying out to God song. The Microphone was very hot so I was a little uneasy at that but I think it ministered to people. Pastor remarked on it and several thanked me for it. Now to find a good duet for me and the Girl to do. Any suggestions?

I'm glad that it went well although I'm not surprised. As far as a duet for you and the Girl, I'll need some direction. Is she a soprano or an alto? How about your voice? Do you want to do something modern or more traditional? Do you want to sing harmonies or both sing melody? sing simultaneously? alternate parts? a mixture? Do you have to have a track or could someone play it for you? Hope that's not too many questions!

The Girl is 7 aren't all 7 yr olds sopranos? I'm a medium high to low tenor. About Carman's range. Contemporary to traditional is fine. Probably both melody. I can sing harmony if I know the song really really well, but I think it would mess her up (as she'd be trying to follow me). I'd think that a mixture of alternate and simultaneous would be good. A track would be best but we could find someone to play if needed. quote:
Hope that's not too many questions! Can never have too many questions. (although the Girl came close as we were watching Star Wars V today. )

The Girl is 7 aren't all 7 yr olds sopranos? Yes. And I'll see what I can brainstorm for you. But you'll want an easy melody (no matter how talented she is), with an easy range. Best bet is one octave (Middle C to the C above it). Don't go much higher or lower than that, and have most of the song in the middle of that octave if possible.

Most young girls are sopranos, but exceptions do exist. Here's a song that I've wanted to sing for a while but haven't. I might try it in mid-May. It's beautiful (no pun intended) and I definitely can hear a young girl's sweet voice singing the chorus. It seems self-explanatory as to when you could alternate, too. It might not be what you had in mind, though. Either way, it's a starting point and will give me a better idea of what you're looking for.

Betty and Shema, The song that Shema posted is beautiful but I think the Girl will want something a little faster. She's a big Hannah Montanna fan so something with a little more pep seems to stick with her better (so far) That's Twila Paris wasn't it? Didn't she do "God is in control"? Absolutely love that song.

Johnno Yep, that was Twila Paris. How about something like a peppy worship song, like Blessed Be Your Name or Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)?

ORIGINAL: John_O Today is M's b-day. After work the Girl and I will be going to the cemetery and releasing balloons with notes to mommy on them. We've done this every year since she went home. It helps us remember all the good things about M. I received a wonderful email from one of M's friends today. It was just a "I still remember and think of her often" email. It blessed my heart. I'm so glad you do that with the girl. Those things are so important, for the littles especially. We released balloons at my Hubbys memorial service. Now, everytime my little gets a balloon she kisses it and says, "I miss you Daddy" and lets it go. Sometimes she blows kisses until she can't see it anymore. The Girl is the same way. Every helium balloon gets sent to mommy. She's getting bigger though. Instead of writing a note this year she said "Mommy knows I love her already!" She was so little when M died that she's already losing some memories of her. Fortunately the ones she's lost first are of the sick years. Isn't it great how God does that. I knew that because of her age when John died, my little would have very few original memories of him, so we started doing a "Daddy Fact of the Day" at dinnertime. We all share something about him and talk and laugh over some of the things that are shared. When the girls are grown, they will have lots of memories of him, But like alot of our childhood memories, they may not be able to tell if it was an original memory or something they were told. But they will be precious none the less.

I very seldom sing worship type songs as solos. I normally do songs with more of a message (Worship is great but my motivational giftings drive me more towards taking the congregation by their throats and shaking them until they see something. KWIM?) BUt keep those suggestions rolling in!

I'll have to play it for her and see. But her voice wouldn't quite be right for the "Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy" lines. SCC's new song (Cinderella?) would work the same way.

OK Campers! Welcome to another episode of unabashedly proud daddy bragging!!! Today we had parent teacher conferences. The Girl's teacher just gushed over her. The Girl is the best reader in her class (1st grade) reading at well above 3rd grade level. They do a test each Friday to see how many words a minuet the kids can read. She started at 73 in January. The last few weeks she was at 120, 117, 117 etc. The teacher said that they put that down but she was really reading much more than that. They just ran out of words in the test sample. She was finishing in 40 seconds what they expected to take at least a minute!!!! She also reads very naturally. So much so that the rest of the kids are trying to copy how she reads cause she just sounds so good. This kind of ties into her one discipline problem. She's so quick at all the class projects that she's always got her nose in a book!! She was also doing great in Math. The only mistakes she makes are because she rushes. It's just too easy for her!!! But to top it all of, and most importantly, she is one of the most popular kids in the class, because she is so humble and such a great helper. While she knows more than all the other kids (only one comes close) She doesn't act like she knows more. No haughtiness at all. (She got her daddy's OH but with her it's natural) She helps the other kids with their work and helps them to learn!!! After that we went to softball tryouts. She was the third best batter and within the top three fielders (out of about 25 kids) And after that we still managed to make it to her classmates B-day party. She walked in and all the little girls there screamed and ran to her for a group hug. Everybody loves the Girl, and the Girl loves everybody. I am truly a blessed man.
