MTTROCKS -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/5/2006 4:28:51 PM)

I will get the new Gold City Cd, and Kingsmen Cd as soon as I can.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/5/2006 4:59:05 PM)

Here's a question for you, out of the Kingsmen's Good Good God cd and Gold City's cd Revival, which one would you think win album of the year.

danielmount -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/5/2006 5:02:40 PM)

If those were the only two nominated, it would be hard to say. Without having heard either, I would probably vote for the Kingsmen album because it sounds to be a bit more traditional in style. I can almost guarantee you that neither will win album of the year, though--that's pretty much up for grabs between Greater Vision, the Inspirations, and now the Perrys, though Signature Sound be in the running if the new album is really good.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/5/2006 5:11:15 PM)

yea, that is true. I may be wrong, but I think Singing News Fan awards are popularity awards. Whoever is popular will win and I think that the Kingsmen are not on top right now but give them one or two years and they will be back on top.

1. Live at the University of Alabama (maybe the best live Southern Gospel album ever)
2. Live...Naturally
3.
4.
5. Jubilation
6. The Old Time Way
7. Just as the Sun Went Down
8. Better in Person

(I've heard good things about Big and Live, and the one that had "Meet Me at the Table," so I'm saving those slots empty till I hear them.)
I normally do not disagree with you but on this one I must. Chattanooga Live had the best vocal talent the Kingsmen have ever put on any stage. It is the album that really made me a Kingsmen fan. Thus I think it is the best one they ever did.

Well, I have never heard it yet. Maybe I should just put another blank slot in on that list![;)]
I just finished Listening to Chattanooga Live. Daniel. I know you are Kingsmen fan and your list will never be totally complete until you have this project. If they had today's technology in 1977, this album would really be unbelievable. Kingmenqt.fan, I really appreciate that a young person like yourself listens to this great music. There are not enough of you going around these days. If you can get a hold of this album then you will see that the best Kingsmen tenor of all time is Ernie Phillips by far.

danielmount -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/6/2006 7:45:45 PM)

I already agree that their best tenor from their glory days was Ernie Phillips. I think Jerry Martin had the raw ability that he could have shone if he'd been fortunate enough to be their tenor in the 70s or 80s, but in point of what actually happened (not what could have been) Ernie was their best.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/6/2006 8:18:22 PM)

I agree with you Tater1955 that Ernie Phillips is the best tenor of the Kingsmen. I loved to hear him sing the ending on Love Lifted Me. I dont believe that I have ever heard a tenor get that high before. I hope Eric Phillips develops like his dad did. He would be a really great tenor if is anything like his dad.

I love this great music because of the rhythm and the messages in the songs. I have been raised in Southern Gospel music my whole life and I have always been a Kingsmen fan. I agree that there isnt many young people that "like" or listen to Southern Gospel music. It worries me as a well. I hope and I pray that Southern Gospel music and the Kingsmen do not become extinct.

youngartist -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/6/2006 10:02:45 PM)

Well, here's another young, HUGE fan of SG and the Kingsmen. I personally love Jeremy Peace; it's probably as much his personality as his singing, but he can get very high. Jerry Martin is also definitely good.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/6/2006 10:30:39 PM)

Yes, Amen brother. I wonder if Jerry Martin will be at the 50th Anniversary Reunion??????????

Live Naturally....was that the double album that was recorded in Mt Vernon, IL? Had Excuses and Shake Hands With A "Pore" "Boyee"? [:)]
That was my first experience.
I want to get a copy of Big And Live.
I also liked the one recorded in Springfield, MO.
I truly think they were at their best with Ernie Phillips, though. It's certainly not the same with Hamill gone.....of course, nostalgia is the best kind of trip to take at times.....[:)]
Jason

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/7/2006 7:54:55 PM)

Tony Peace with the Kingsmen is like Jim Hammill with the Kingsmen but Hamill is better. Jim Hamill will never be replaced but Tony Peace is doing a great job as the emcee and the baritone singer.

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/7/2006 11:01:51 PM)

Here is a question for all of the Kingsmen fans and non-Kingsmen fans:
What is your favorite lineup of the Kingsmen??????????

My would be:
Bryan Hutson ~ Lead
Ernie Phillips ~ Tenor
Jim Hamill ~ Baritone
Josh Griffin~ Bass

Just kidding.... Ray Dean Reese ~ Bass

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/7/2006 11:04:16 PM)

Do you mean , make up our own linesup? or did you want actual line ups that they had as a group?

KingsmenQuartetFan -> RE: The Kingsmen Thread (10/7/2006 11:06:12 PM)

Make up your favorite lineup of current and former members of the Kingsmen.
