When you say he reminds you of Jim are you talking about the way he "pats" the tenor!! In every video I have, Jim would always "pat" the tenor on the shoulder or back, as if to say, come on, get on up there!!, a little higher, a little higher, come on!! I noticed that Phil DOES fit in good with the guys personality wise. I remember Randy Crawford used to pick and pat at the tenor when he was there. I have a concert question. Do the Kingsmen ever do Looking for a City when they are with other groups?? I know I love the KingsGold videos..."we'll keep going up and up until one of em quits or one of em dies"!!!!! to quote Big Jim

I have been listening to Gold City's Revival, and wow, its good. It seems to be made along the same lines as When God Ran, and is very good. I hope its not too soon, but when Ray Dean decides to hang up the microphone, I'd love to see Aaron McCune with the Kingsmen. He is one of the best new bass singers that I have heard.

Speaking of Brian Free, I am going to get to see them in about 2 weeks. They are at a church not 20 minutes from my front door.

VERY cool! I'm sure you'll like them. Their stage appeal isn't quite what it was with the band, but their harmony and Brian's tenor are second to nobody.

There as been a nice discussion about Randy Crawford on another thread, and it got me to thinking about just how many singers have came through the Kingsmen since the 40th anniv. reunion. I listed former members since then, and counted musicians and singers. I havent followed any other groups as closely as the Kingsmen, but is it normal for a group to have such turnover. Since the reunion the Kingsmen have had 12 different vocalists, not counting Ray, or musicians who sang occasionally.

if I havent mistaken the vocalists have been: Chris Collins Jerry Martin Derrick Boyd Jeremy Peace Harold Reed Randy Crawford Tim Surrett Phillip Hughes Bryan Hutson Parker Jonathan Tony Peace and ole'Ray ..the rock...the constant OOPs...in my 12 number I think I counted Tim twice!! Although since they sang diff. positions you could really count Bryan and Tim twice technically.

- The Kingsmen have had a lot of change in the past few years, I would say more then usual. But then again a lot of groups have had a lot of change lately. By the way, has anyone heard anything new about the band?

Do guys just get burnt out on the grind of traveling so much?? I'm sure some of it is personality clashes.. I mean you really get to know someone when you are cooped up with them for any length of time. I would also say that creative differences have caused alot of turnover in a lot of groups over the years. Speaking of turnover, does anyone know Ray's plan for the group when he retires? Will Brandon do like Greg Fox and run the show on the road? I have never heard them say what the future plans are.

Perhaps the reason for turnover here or in any group could be as simple as the person feels God is leading them in a different direction.

I'm sure that's definately the case some of the time. I think that kind of falls in line with creative differences. If a member of a group feels like the group is compromising the message, or doesnt think the direction is in line with God's Word, I think that can cause someone to leave. I even know of cases in a small group around here where one singer quit because another member wouldn't quit smoking. He felt that wasn't in line with being a Christian.

quote:
ORIGINAL: DJSfromCleveland Well, i know that most all groups have lots of turnover, or some, so it's not just a certain group, it is just a fact of life in Southern Gospel music. You gotta admit, sometimes the reason has just gotta be people get tired of that life on the road, living out of a bus with several other members in close company. I know i would. Oh I agree, especially when you realize that there are alot of good churches who need good singers to lead choirs, or church quartets, and that can really be a blessing to people. You'd really have to love it to stay on the road for years and years.

ORIGINAL: tenorsister quote:
ORIGINAL: BillBaileyKQFan yeah, seems as if it would have made sense to do that. I dont know if Phillip is considered a tenor, but he is very high sometimes. I always wondered if it was weird for Bryan to sing the same songs he used to sing, but sing a differnent part, same as when Tim did that. Left as lead and came back as baritone. Maybe its no big deal to him, being a professional. While I agree that Phil can sing high sometimes being a Kingsmen tenor you need to sing high all the time and perhaps this is something Phil does not wish to do. I am sure if Phil had wanted to be the tenor he could have been but I think the guys sound great and each does their part very well. I also know that there are those who were and some who still are, skeptical of Harold as the tenor for the Kingsmen and so I guess the point is that everyone has an opinion but at the end of the day that is all it is simply an opinion and nothing can be done to change why things are the way they are so we merely share and respect opinions and go on. Of course this is just.....MY OPINION! I agree, everybody has their own opinion and for those who may be skeptical of Harold as tenor for the Kingsmen, let me share this ...... I saw Harold not long after he joined (three weeks) the Kingsmen as their new tenor. As a matter of fact, the only reason I was at that particular concert was to "check him out as the new tenor" ~ and WOW! I thought it would be hard to replace Jeremy Peace as tenor - boy was I wrong. Harold was outstanding!!! Better than I could have ever expected. He is an AWESOME tenor. When they sang Glory Road - he could have shattered the glass windows in that church (I actually heard several remark that after the song ended), and - I might mention that his mic was a good 14 -16 inches away with no loss in clarity, tone or pitch! I really love to hear Harold sing Joy's Gonna Come (In The Morning)!!! Harold not only brought an incredible voice to the Kingsmen line-up, but his personality fits well with the group's ministry.

I dont understand your quote of me there. I think Harold is an excellent tenor, and ranks right up there with Kingsmen tenors are far as I'm concerned. I guess if I could rank them: Chris collins Jerry Martin Harold Reed Ernie Phillips Jermey Peace Garry Sheppard John parrack Derrick Boyd
