I had the privilege of seeing the Blackwood Gospel Quartet with Mark Blackwood tonight. They did alot of old songs from the 70's and 80's for the first part of the program. The second half they sang alot of requested songs without music. Their paino player was sick. They were able to do hymns along with alot of other gospel music. Everyone enjoyed being able to request their favorite hymn.

Just saw Gold City and Mercy's Well. Someone should have shot, flogged, then stoned the sound engineer as the mix was terrible. Poor Aaron McCune sounded like he was burping into the microphone at times.

All told, a great show in spite of the sound glitches. The local group was pretty good as usual, though you couldn't hear the bass singer too well. Mercy's Well I'd never heard of, but they were pretty good as well. Gold City was solid. Lots of new stuff, and since I don't have their new album, it was all new to me.

The concert went for three hours, and at $12 for an adult ticket, money v e r y well spent.

Hopefully they'll be back again soon. Don't understand how I can live in the Bible-Belt and have so few Southern Gospel concerts... One of life's great mysteries.

Where were you sitting? The mix was good where we sat (that is often the case with sound it seems, it depends on where you sit as to how it sounds). King's Cause, the group from the church did a good job, the young man that sang the verses on "He Will Hide Me Again" has a very good voice. They sounded muffled a bit where I sat but they were a good church group.

It was my first time to see Mercy's Well in person and it was great to talk with them before and after the concert. Greg reminded me we had met several years ago when he was with another group when his face looked familar but I couldn't place where I knew him from.

Gold City did great job and Josh tore the piano up!!! Steve's dad, brother, his brother's fiance and some others from there church were there and you could tell that Steve was enjoying the time with family as well as singing his heart out.

They did a lot of cuts from 'Revival' and this group just gets better and the blend gets tighter every time I heard them. I was a 2 hour drive for the concert but well worth it!

I had a wonderful time last night seeing the Crabb Family. The Old Paths opened the concert and they were fine. Everyone definitely got their money's worth. The concert began at 7pm and we were walking out of the concert hall at 11:45pm. The Crabb Family did all of their biggest hits along with a couple of new songs. I was glad to see them before they stop touring in their current configuration. A great night.

Within two Weeks I saw; Kevin Spencer & Friends, The Kingsmen, and at our concert we had The Melody Boys Quartet, for Little Rock, Arkansas. End of next month we will have Miss Lillie Knauls "The Hat Lady" from the Gaither Homecoming recordings and videos in concert.

I got to see Gold City tonight in Canton, Ga. They put on a great concert. Steve was terrific tonight and hit some really high notes. Aaron was the best and most relaxed I've ever seen him. And he didn't hold the microphone so close to his mouth all the time so I could really see his smile. Unfortunately, I didn't know I was going to get to go to the concert when I left the house this afternoon(that's another story!), so I didn't have my camera with me. Danny and Jonathan were very good, too. Danny didn't do all of the emceeing - Jonathan and Steve did as much as Danny. And they let Aaron tell a couple of his jokes --- they were SO bad but his delivery was hilarious!!! Here's the song list for Daniel:

Ain't That What It's All About?
Look Who Just Checked In
In My Robe of White
How Majestic Is Your Name - piano solo by Josh
God's Still Good
Mercy Came Runnin'
God's Still Good
I'm Not Giving Up
There Rose a Lamb
Truth is Marching On

second half:
When I Get Carried Away
That Little Baby
Praise God, I'm Free
We Shall See Heaven After a While
Teach Me, Lord, to Wait
He Said
Preach the Word

So let's hear it.

Do you often find yourself surprised that you are attending a Southern Gospel concert?

Kerr---she went to church to practice with a ladies ensemble.....problem is, it evidently was called off and she wasn't notified!! So, she was able to go to the concert that she thought she'd have to miss! She's ALWAYS on the lookout for a concert to go to! So, when the practice didn't materialize, her car took her straight to Canton (Georgia).

Thanks, Donna! I was curious...

Diana, thanks for the song list! I'm glad to hear they're still singing "When I Get Carried Away." That song is probably my favorite Gold City song, because as someone who writes song lyrics myself I appreciate the somewhat subtle humor. Every line in the chorus is funnier than the best jokes they tell, if you stop and think about them.

That's one of my very favorites, too, and I've heard BF&A, Ivan Parker, and Mike LeFevre Quartet perform it. (I don't think I've ever heard MMQ do it, but I could be wrong.) I just don't think you can beat the original group on that song!!!

Especially the original lineup of the original group. I've only heard the combination once or twice, but when you put Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Tim Riley, and (possibly) Mike LeFevre and Garry Jones all together on that song, things happen.

Last night I went to hear Legacy Five here in Wichita, KS & they were absolutely awesome. Tim Parton was with them as their pianist & he can evermore play that piano! He slap tore it up! The guys were in great spirits & the evening was over way too soon.

If my choir had done that last night, I could have sneaked over to Zoar Baptist to see the Isaacs. But noooooooooooooo......... we had a record crowd for March (12 people), We even had a new soprano! Well actually, she's 72, so maybe I should just say she is new to our choir!! Or maybe I shouldn't say anything at all!!

zzzzzzzzzz

On Saturday night I saw the Melody Boys Quartet. I had never heard them before, but they sounded quite good. They had really tight harmony and did a great job. I liked how they did a fair amount of songs with just them and the piano. They did a very nice job.

I saw the Gaither "show" last night in Fairfax, Virginia. It was a good show, but it'll take some getting used to tht there are not as many artists with the show as were with him last year. At this show were Kevin Williams (yeah! funnier than ever - I got his autograph!!), Jeff and Sheri Easter, Lynda Randle, Joy Gardner, Sue Dodge, Ben Speer, Signature Sound, and GVB. I got some pictures that I might post. If they're good, I'll post a link here. GVB and SSQ did a song together (don't know what the title was) that I'm guessing will be on their joint album coming out in August. It was to the tune Finlandia and it was really beautiful with the combined voices. It was very traditional. Lynda Randle's mom was there (Lynda's from Washington, DC) and Lynda sang a song where two of her grown nieces came on stage and sang and then Charlotte took a mic down to Lynda's mom and she sang on the chorus. (I'm having a senior moment and can't remember which song they sang --- hush up young'uns!! Maybe my daughter will remember when she gets up and I'll let y'all know!) It was an old hymn and Lynda's mom was very good. We could tell that it was special for Lynda and the crowd just loved it!

Yes, all the advertisements and publicity made a point that they've really cut down the number of groups traveling with the "show." So, does each artist get to sing more songs since there are fewer groups? Or does GVB use the "extra" time? How do the choruses sound when everyone sings?
